OK FReeperettes, I need some help.
Its finally happened, just as I knew it would my face is starting to show my age. Quickly.
I knew it would happen just like this. Every woman ages the same in my mothers family and apparently, Im no exception. They get seriously carded, their husbands get flack for being with a teenager, nobody believes their teenagers belong to the - until about 40.
Then BOOM! Their faces crater. They go from easily passing for 21 to looking 45 within a few months and it all happens around 40. Doesnt matter if they smoke or moisturize or how much sun they get. The timing is never off.
Im almost 40 and for the last month Ive noticed the dark circles under my eyes getting darker, my skin starting to slack, and my pores starting to enlarge. I dont have many fine lines; however, if genetics hold true, the wrinkle brigade will be in full force by next summer.
But I will NOT go gracefully into that good night! Its too early for a facelift (plus Im a big chicken), so Im looking for a good face cream. I already moisturize, so Ive got that going for me, but I need something to fight the dark circles under my eyes and something that firms and tones the skin and reduces pores.
There are literally thousands of products out there. Id like to find out whats worked for you. Point me in the right direction my conservative sisters! Tell me where to put my money!
(One thing. I cant use Retin A. I have some permanent burn scars from using that crap for only two weeks a decade ago.)
I found “hope in a jar”! And I thought you were just being funny! lol!
Please do keep us posted! If I find something that works, I’ll let you know.
I know I’m coming late to this with my post, but Clinique has something called “skin texture lotion”. It took 5 years off of me when I turned 40. Works wonders.
So far, yours sounds the best and the cheapest.
I just turned 50, and I have problems with the dark undereye circles, but so far the wrinkles are being kept at bay (I'm not overweight, just have "chipmunk cheeks"). I've never smoked, use Neutrogena 40 SPF sunscreen, never wear makeup, and use Dr. Murad's Resurgence Renewing Cleansing Cream daily. It's pretty good stuff. I'll definitely try the Preparation H treatment and see if it helps.
I’m not ashamed of my *age*, I’m very proud of it!
As a matter of fact, I have a habit of lying about my age - the other way. Yes, I round up.
The way I look at it, if I said, “I’m 32” people go “oh”. If I say that I’m 40, people scream, “That’s amazing! You look wonderful!”
Works every time. I’ve been 40 for 7 years now. Now that I’m really turning 40, it’s time to go for 50. (evil grin)
It also helps with the “sticker shock” of turning 30, 40, 50, etc. If you say that your 40 (or “pushing 40”) enough times when you’re 33 on up, then actually turning 40 doesn’t phase you.
It never made sense to me to lie and to say that you were younger. The face doesn’t lie. You’re just down-playing your own wisdom. Being older is something to be proud of!
(But I don’t want to look it! lol!)
I know what you mean. I actually have scars from using a dermatologist-recommended Retin-A. I called him after a week and told him that I was bleeding. He said that the “redness” would go away after a month or so and to “push through it”.
I pushed through another week. By the end of the week, I had huge open sores on my face.
Weirdly, that’s the part of my face that has no pores or wrinkles. Just get severely burned and you’ll look younger! Ug!
Preparation H is great. Learned about it when I worked in Hollywood, and it works.
Helps with what? You look great! With your bone structure, you look like you could be a member of my family! (The only one aging gracefully, but ho-hum!)
I think that the “chipmunk cheeks” really have helped us in the aging department as well. That’s what gets us carded at 38!
Got it! Thank you!
Well, I hate to be a wet blanket, but you can tighten your face up all you want, but you will still be 40 or however old you are. Won’t stop death either. Age gracefully. Also if you go to a dermatologist he can recommend stuff that will help, my wife did that and her wrinkles actually went away, however she almost died from an allergic reaction to the stuff, what ever it was, so you might want to think about that for a while.
Thank you... (I’m the one in the foreground of the picture, not the background, by the way...) ROTFLMAO!
Thank you for the warning! Would you mind sharing what that was so we can be wary of it??
Effects and side-effects of 2% progesterone cream on the skin of peri- and postmenopausal women: results from a double-blind, vehicle-controlled, randomized study
Results- The study demonstrated a significant (P ≤ 0·05) increase of the elastic skin properties in the treatment group, as demonstrated by objective measurements of three skin elasticity parameters, whereas in the control group no such effect was observed.
Thank you and saved! (My mom lost several years when she started using progesterone cream after she started menopause. As a matter of fact, so did my aunt... makes me wonder about the genetic component. Maybe we’re just needing hormones around the same age, but the “monthlies” don’t stop for a few more years.)
You put it on your face? I’ve never heard of that.
Yes if you look at the graphs women quit producing adequate levels of progesterone on their early forties even when estrogen production is pretty good. I think the hormone imbalances of peri-menopause cause a lot of problems.
