Bounty hunters have killed one of three fugitive hippos who escaped from a zoo founded by the fallen Colombian drug baron Pablo Escobar.
The other two remain on the run in the north west of the South American country. The one-and-a-half ton male was killed by two hunters near a river in Antioquia province on June 18, but the news was first reported on Friday by Colombian news media.
The three mammals bust loose from the zoo two years ago, surviving on the lush vegetation of the steamy Magdalena valley, far from their native Africa, ever since. Colombian wildlife authorities issued an order to kill the animals after locals complained the trio were damaging crops and livestock.

Escobar imported exotic species of hippos to his private zoo in his heydey
ooooookkkkkaaaayyyyy
I’ll never forget something I read in the book “Hunter,” by John Hunter, a profession big game hunter back in Colonial days—
He said that people thought of Hippos as being quite comical animals, but that in fact they were extremely dangerous big game- He came across the carcasses of a rhino and hippo who had killed each other in mortal combat.
The hippo was punctured numerous times from the horn, but the rhino’s back was bitten in two by those enormous jaws. The died locked together.
If they make it to Venezuela, maybe Chavez will give them political asylum.
Where is PETA in this fast developing news flash?
I love that phrase - 'fugitive hippos' - sort of like they robbed a bank or some such, or made off with Escobar's cocaine shipment to the U.S. but didn't give his cut ... gotta seek out those damn fugitive hippos ! /laughs
That’s no big deal, they were probably just married.
I misread the title. I thought they were killing hippies.

I'd sure hate to be that fella if an amorous male got frisky with the decoy he's in...
Hey, this could be a song. You know, like Geronimo’s Cadillac or something.
I’ve never seen that picture of Michelle and Barrack.
Where did you get it?
Hahhahahahaaaa ... TOUCHE! /grin
