I did a search for grills and came across this gem. Actually I was just looking for a grill that I could set up over some rocks for my bug-out gear.
Veggie burgers, veggie kabobs, nonrenewable resource and greenhouse gasses from a grill? Holy crap. I can't imagine hiredhand using that satellite dish looking thing to cook a rack of ribs.
I reckon I'll just stick with what I have now:

Hey Greenies, do us all a favor: Stop eating and stop breathing altogether. The planet's problems will be over (as far as you know)!

I tried a Burger King veggie-burger once ... tasted terrible ... even with cheese and bacon.

Oh, and if you forget to fold it up after use it will conveniently set your neighbor’s deck on fire.

The solar grilling idea has been around for a few decades. I wouldn’t mind trying it but don’t think I would want to rely on it.

Awesome. My favorite IGD (improvised grilling device) is an old steel wheel. Bolt pattern looks Ford to me, but it may not matter.

My spouse built a credible sun oven using galvanized and steel. Black tile lines the box.
It cooks pretty well, but don’t try beans in it. They won’t cook down.
The temps will reach those in a slow cooker and it helps to have an oven temp gauge in the box itself.
But grill! Give me propane or charcoal and forget the PC.
Char, blackened and crisp beats all.

So now, instead of burning your eyelashes off, the focused sun rays will only make you go blind when you tend your food.
This whole thing is gay. Propane is the way to go (When you don't have time for charcoal).

Appleseed, You mentioned you needed a grill for your bugout bag. We have a contraption that we bought back in the 70's and have used in emergency situations many times. It's called a Kalahari Grill. It folds up flat to 22" X 14" 1 5/8" and is light. You can cook 4 steaks using just 4 sheets of newspaper as fuel. No kidding.... it works! Somehow the fat dripping slowly on the paper coats it and keeps it buring a long long time.
I just did a search to see if I could find it on the net to show you what it looks like and found it here. Don't know if you can still buy one, but I bet you can somewhere.
By the way..... thanks for the chuckle over the shopping cart grill. That and someone's comment about its handy bunwarmer and I am still laughing!!
