"The Internet, alongside endless amounts of porn and frivolous viral content, serves as a meeting place for the token, intellectual conservative unable to find common ground with his liberal acquaintances or overtly religious peers."

Take it for granted that being intellectual and being "overtly religious" are incompatible.

It reads like one of those news stories from 1996 about “There’s an interesting new thing called “The Internet” that may be on a computer near you!”

I'm not sure that "intellectual" is a term with any precise meaning, especially when used in a political context. One can find a perfectly adequate plumber in the Yellow Pages, for example, but would risk severe disappointment attempting to find an intellectual the same way.

Nevertheless, one's search for kindred spirits or those with common interests in fields normally associated with intellectual activity - philosophy, mathematics, literature, monster truck races and professional wrestling - is aided by the ability of distributed communications to reach an audience much wider than was formerly the case in the days of the typewriter and the handbill.

Welcome to FR. We've been at this for a long time now. ;-)

the token, intellectual conservative unable to find common ground with his liberal acquaintances or overtly religious peers.

Is that code for "secular right HBDers"?

(Just asking... I've got no beef with them.)
