(Vanity) Question about the 1895 Nagant Revolver.
Surplusrifle.com ^ | 8 Jul 09 | I got the rope

My father collects older military weapons and the other day he asked me if I could find him an SKS and a Mosin-Nagant Rifle. He said he has always meant to buy them, and they have always been plentiful and inexpensive...so he never worried about it. He thought he could eventually find one somewhere. Well...things are getting scarce...so now I'm on a mission.

I found the SKS, the 1891 Mosin-Nagant, and just for kicks I bought this really cool revolver (1895 Nagant). All are in excellent unissued condition. Here's the rub...I can't find ammo for the revolver!

Now I know my dad will never shoot any of these weapons, but if I show up with a weapon and no ammo...he's going to give me that "look" and of course say something like "What am I supposed to do with this?"

I know this from experience. I made the mistake of buying him a Ruger .41 magnum and didn't supply the ammo.

I just read that you can fire .32 S&W and the .32 H&R Magnum...but I read that on Wikipedia.

I trust wikipedia as much as I trust a 'rat.

OH! The question is:

Where can I find the ammo?

Another question:

Can I shoot the above ammo out of this thing?

Know well the boat you’re in.

My Dad has an old shotgun that the ammo was heavy paper covered. None of the ‘plastic’ ammo fits.

Wish you luck.

I can’t help you, but there are plenty of revolver boards where you can post the question. Someone will know. Chances are you’ll get a lot of other info to go along with it.

The best place I know of to find info like that is here:

http://www.thehighroad.org/

You’ll have to sign up and join. then post your question there on that forum. You’ll likely get about 20 people that know the answer and then tell you everything else about that old gun that you never wanted to know. Then some people will want to buy it off ya, and other will want to sell you more of them.

The Nagant revolver is a very unique firearm. The cylinder moves forward as you begin to pull the double action trigger, sealing the gap between the cylinder and barrel. The bullet is rebated into the brass case, and the case itself is formed down to the size of the bore, further sealing the cartridge to the barrel. I have shot the Fiocci ammo in mine and it works great.

Yeah...I think it’s cool. It reminds me of another revolver that my father has...I think he calls it a Belgian Pinfire. I’ll look for a pic.

IIRC they My Father in Law had a 16 ga pump action with a short chamber. You could shoot standard 2 3/4 inch shells, but they wouldn't eject properly. Hard to say what they did to the chamber.

c

Sellier & Bellot makes them. Here's another source and they have 2.5 inch shells too, if that's what you need.

See also the Mosin Nagant/AK-47/M-16 Humor Page. An excerpt:

Stuff you know if you have an AK Stuff you know if you have an AR Stuff you know if you have a Mosin Nagant
It works though you have never cleaned it. Ever. You have $9 per ounce special non-detergent synthetic Teflon infused oil for cleaning. It was last cleaned in Berlin in 1945.
You are able to hit the broad side of a barn from inside. You are able to hit the broad side of a barn from 600 meters. You can hit the farm from two counties over.
