Disturbing Billboard Bleeds When It Rains [NZ]

The local government in Papakura, New Zealand isn't screwing around when it comes to road safety. Their new bleeding billboard campaign takes a Red Asphalt approach that they hope will creep out reckless drivers.

Let me be the first to say "mission accomplished." Kids are creepy anyway, but throw in a system that leeches blood when it rains and you just might scare people into giving up their cars entirely. Not surprisingly, the billboards have been effective. Since they were put in place, there hasn't been a single fatal accident in the area.

Dangerous section of road in South Auckland. I know it well.

The ad is probably a Saatchi & Saatchi job. Their HQ is in downtown Auckland. They’re good at doing tasteless ads.

I wonder if the same folks who scream about fetus photos (even the most innocent ones that are actually quite beautiful) are objecting to these ads?

I hope pro-lifers will use this technique with an intact beautiful fetus that bleeds when it rains.

Video

Video of your roadway. I happen to dislike billboards period and consider them a blight. So, for me, the message doesn't matter. I wish they had never been invented.

The shock value would be enormous. While I disagree with the vehicle, the message would be strong.

I’m surprised the billboards aren’t causing more wrecks as people become distracted by them.
