Wierd. Turn off computer. Turn back on.

If that doesn’t work, do a search for ad-aware and run that.

If that doesn’t work, get technical or backup your files, reformat the hard drive, and reload the operating system and all your programs. : )

Could be a DNS issue.

Did you ever make an entry in your etc\hosts file for Free Republic? I remember a problem with FR's DNS entry a few years ago, which motivated some users to add an entry to hosts to force FR to be found.

If you have such an entry, and your DNS service is broken, then you would be able to see FR and nowhere else (including images, unless hosted on FR, which most are not).

Try putting 74.125.45.100 in your browser's location bar. If Google comes up, your DNS is hosed.

Open a command window (Windows-R, then cmd.exe). Type ping 74.125.45.100. It should work. Then type ping google.com. If it claims to be unable to resolve google.com, you’ve got a DNS problem.

This happens to me every few days. The problem started last February, got better, then after a few months, started again. We concluded it is an incompatibility with my Airlink 101 router and Cox Cable.

The particular behavior is due to loss of DNS services while the FR IP address is cached.

The short term solution for me is to unplug the router for about 15 seconds and reconnect the computers. The longer term solution may be to update the router firmware. I have downloaded a newer version, but I have not ventured to load the stuff, yet.

If you have a restore point when it was working correctly, restore it to that point.
