“When people mean lose and say ‘loose.’”
I think that is frequently a typo. I never hear anyone actually “say” loose when they mean lose. The error shows up in my own typing (I type phonetically, I guess—think choose and booze for example) and of course a spell-checker does not find it. If you are a fast typist, you do not type letters, but whole words, and do not think of the letters at all. It annoys me no end when I find I’ve done it. It has nothing to do with spelling ability.

thefactor, I don’t blame you for no longer emailing with someone who spells it with an ‘a’. I have to correct everyone who spells it with an ‘a’ and it happens ALL the time.
Whenever I ask people what the word ‘finate’ means they always automatically correct the spelling of definitely after a few seconds and I sort of laugh to myself. I try as much as possible to use correct grammar, though I slip up every once in a while and let me apologize if I make any errors here (I’m on a hotel computer and the keyboard is less than cooperative).
And i totally agree about the puncuation inside quotes; it doesn’t make much sense to me either.

If so, I submit the use of "tenant" or "tenent" when "tenet" is clearly meant.
Otoh, I fully understand why these posters prefer an attempt at tenet to a relative moon-shot at principle.
