NEWPORT BEACH – A female high school athletic trainer pleaded guilty today to having an unlawful sexual relationship for one year with a male high school student.

Hope Ashley Jacoby, 24, San Juan Capistrano, faces three years' probation – including 30 days' Caltrans service – at her sentencing July 29 before Superior Court Commissioner Greg Jones.

She pleaded guilty to seven felony counts involving sexual contact with a minor.

Jacoby admitted that she had an unlawful sexual relationship in 2008 with a male student she met while working as an athletic trainer at Tustin High School.

Because the "victim" was a 17 year-old boy who probably high-fived and bragged to all his buddies about banging the hot gym teacher. I doubt he needs counseling.

That would be because your knowledge of the subject at hand comes entirely from pornography, trashy TV shows, and locker room jokes.

“The saddest part of this whole story is that a beautiful young girl’s career is ruined.”

LOL. Classic. We never do look at the true victims in these no-brainer not-guilty cases. Seems to me that boy should be expelled from the school, for wrecking that poor girl’s career.

It isn’t ridiculous. If she’ll sleep with a 15 year old, then you have very good reason to worry she might go even younger.
My point is that a line has to be drawn somewhere, otherwise there is no limit to who she may sleep with. Our laws draw the line at 18. Thats not unreasonable.

It seems there is a double standard only when the female is attractive.

Of course. Is there something wrong with that?

Indeed. Your entire life as a male you are told girls mature faster than boys, BOTH physically AND psychologically.

Yet, some of the “shotgun weddin’” types on FR (and elsewhere) will consistently tell us that it’s worse for a male to engage in sexual activity with a teenage girl than the reverse.

But if girls do mature physically and psychologically at a faster rate, then they are far more likely to be ‘ready’ to carry on such a relationship.

Kinda like how it HAD been for thousands of years until now.

I’m not saying throw the book at a 24 year old for being with a 16 year old, but let’s stop pretending that somehow young women are more vulnerable (only more able to get pregnant) than young men are. And if young men’s hormones are so in control of their sex drive, wouldn’t that make them even less able to ‘consent’ in comparison to a girl?

I just wish we held the kids responsible for their behavior and stopped treating kids who know better like outright victims.

Yum yum yum, , , , , , , , , , , , and what a pity!

A woman like that could get a dozen eighteen year old males for free.

We live in an age of double standards in the aftermath of the 1960’s and the Evil Rights Movement.

Affirmative action is a contradiction(reverse discrimination, reverse racism). The recent court ruling overturning Sotomayer’s decision is just one battle, the war against affirmative action is far from over.

Women are not seen(rightfully or wrongfully) as aggressors in these older woman/young boy relationships.
These women generally use seduction and not coercion<-— And that is the key difference why women are not given the same heavy sentences as men.

There is one important difference between men and women in these cases of statutory rape, at least involving these teachers.
Yes, in both cases we are dealing with predators.
But these women do not use coercive or forceful methods to engage in these sexual relationships with their young students. Women prefer to use seduction as their method to engage their victim.
Men are generally more aggressive, or just use physical. force.

In terms of sentencing, that is very relevant.
Why do we lock up men and not the women?
Because the male perpetrators are seen as more dangerous to the community.

THAT IS WHY !

We had female sexual predators when I was in high school, but they were a lot older and very unattractive. The one that I am thinking of was a Latin teacher who preferred the male athletes who were the same age as her own son.

In some states the age of consent is 17(as is in Florida ?)!
I do not know if any state goes as low as 16.
The age of consent in Mexico is only 13, which gives you an idea how corrupt and perverted that country is.

When I was 16 I was married, a father, and a deckhand (on the Mississippi River). (1950’s)

I think males on average were a litle more mature in those days. Females seem to be a little more mature today.

As someone who, a long time ago, was once a 17 year-old boy (17 year-olds are men), I can describe what it takes to seduce them - Is she female? Does she have a pulse? - end of seduction.

As a parent of 3 girls and 1 boy who have all passed that stage, I can say that I agree with that statement. I think when I was a teenager, back in the '70s, is when the shift started to happen. I have no idea why it happened.

I will say this, you're point bolsters mine. Women in the 20's (especially early 20's) having relations with 16/17 year-old men is NOT pedophilia. We would prefer that teenagers abstain from all sexual contact, at least if they're not married. But, let's face it, some are going to be sexually active. 10 year-olds, should NEVER EVER be engaging in any kind of sexual or even intimate behavior. There' the difference.

Pedophilia is the predation of children. 16 and 17 year-olds are not children and certainly weren't when this country was founded and for the next 150 or so years. But, there been some kind of push, and I believe it's come from the leftist of this country, to coddle and infantilize teenagers when we should be treating them more like adults.

It really started to bug me, when at the start of the Iraq/Afghanistan war, we saw groups like "Code Pink" describe these 17/18/19 year-old men as "sending our children" off to war. 17/18/19 men are the people who won the second World War, and every other war that America has fought. We shouldn't forget it.

The seduction works best if they are good looking like Debra LaFave, Pamela Rogers, Carrie McCandless, etc :-)

The sexual predator laws apply to everyone equally. “Dangerous” is a subjective term.

These are ADULTS going after kids who think they are adults. These are predators who view the student body as the cafeteria for their sexual appetites. Throwing around terms like ‘love’ and whatever is crap.

These are people in positions of power and responsibility over kids. They could blackmail the kids to have sex with them for grades. They are mentally more mature and cunning than the kids (yes I thought I was smarter than my teachers and in some things maybe but not in manipulating people).

It is ridiculous. Male and female teachers are getting carte blanche to go after kids and everyone responding to me seems to want to hypocritically hang the guys and let the female predators off (if they are hot in their opinion). Outrageous. I hope I don’t get jury duty with you guys.

Hand in hand with the coddling of teenagers is the extension of adolescence well into our 20s and 30s. I think this mindset really took hold with the raising of the drinking age to 21.

Jack Daniel became a licensed distiller at 16 but today, childhood seems to last forever.
