Abstract
Coyotes (Canis latrans) pose a risk to domestic cats (Felis catus). We captured, radiocollared, and tracked 8 coyotes from November 2005 to February 2006 for 790 hours in Tucson, Arizona, USA. We observed 36 coyotecat interactions; 19 resulted in coyotes killing cats. Most cats were killed in residential areas from 2200 hours to 0500 hours during the pup-rearing season. Single coyotes were as effective killing cats as were groups (>1) of coyotes. Documented cases of predators killing cats could encourage cat owners to keep their cats indoors and assist wildlife managers in addressing urban wildlife issues.

I’d much rather have feral cats running around town than coyotes.
I think the big breakthrough came when the coyotes stopped doing business with ACME Corporation, and went to Kellogg, Brown & Root.
So, kitties could be effectively used by varmint hunters to bring in the ‘yotes?
Hmmm...something to keep in mind.
Okay, all seriousness aside. I’ve frequently witnessed coyotes trying to draw dogs away from residences along the edge of wilderness/civilization. They mimic the cry of a wounded pup.
I’ve also heard packs of coyotes mimic elk calves in distress out in the areas where I hunt elk. You wanna talk about one eerie sound...? That’s it. I can’t fully describe it, but it sent shivers up and down my spine the first time I heard it.
LOL!!!
My wife had a much beloved and beautiful black Persian killed by a coyote here in central South Carolina.
Angel (her name) had dodged or defeated dogs and other cats for ten years but with a truly wild predator intent on avoiding starvation for itself or it’s family, she finally met her match.
She was my wife’s cat but I still miss her.
I had just decided to keep a stray tuxedo kitty. Had her spayed and a week later, we only found her head and a foot. Animal control said definite coyote.
Because the large Catio was such a hit, we then turned our small covered patio (off our master bedroom) into a smaller catio for the kitties!
It’s a tough one—cats HAVE to be free at times to stalk the jungle or they become unhappy and neurotic zombies.
Bounties on coyotes provided a steady income for hunters and trappers in the old West—time to say FY to misanthropic creeps like PETA and bring the practice back.
I got a Yote 2 weeks ago with a 22 magnum rifle.

Whore! Her ankles are showing!
I love your “Catios”! Kitties are cute, too.
We live in a semi-rural area in California. Everything from foxes to mountain lions have been spotted, not to mention owls and eagles. Our cat loves to roam around, but he’s smart enough to do it mostly during the day. He sleeps all night like a person, wakes up around 4:30 a.m. and asks to go out at 5:00. Summer or winter, it’s always around 5:00. Apparently he not only knows the safest time to go outside, but he also knows how to tell time.
Thanks so much for the link to “The Daily Coyote”!
What a delightful read!
Well, with the price of ammo going up, the thirteen-cent solution is closer to a buck, but it still works.
Shows what you know, they went with Halliburton.
