BTW, as long as I'm ranting- what is all the fuss about the altitude of the mountain climbs this year? Here is Colorado we have 50+ peaks of over 14,000 ft. Nothing is even close to that in France. As a matter of fact my home in Denver is 5280 and where I am sitting right now (Vail) is 8150. My husband rode Vail Pass yesterday (his favorite) which rises to 10,600.

French peaks, my butt!

I’m from denver as well. You have to remember our mountains start at 5000-6000 feet, where in France they start at basically sea level. So the altitude gain is similar, and the overall grade is similar as well
(But I will never admit the French have anything close to as good as we do!)
However, they don’t have the altitude to contend with.
My husband loves riding passes, but before he gets too old, I would love to send him to France to ride the Ventoux and the Alp d’huez.
