PICKENS COUNTY, AL (WVUA) - Authorities in Pickens County are trying to track a pack of wild dogs they believe may have killed a 96-year-old man and consumed his remains.

Israel Pope, Jr. was reported missing Monday night and police found his remains in a field on his property, about a quarter of a mile from his house.

Police believe Pope had been consumed by a pack of dogs authorities tracked to a den under an abandoned mobile home.

Investigators found pieces of Pope's clothing and what may have been human remains at the mobile home.

He said it was unclear whether the dogs killed Pope, or whether they found his body in the field and consumed it.

The way I heard it was something about a trip to the outhouse and some hogs.

Back in the eighties my mother in law carried a 32 auto loader when she walked her farmette in rural Al. Coming to an area near you. Be it dogs, cougars, gators, coyotes...etc.

Yeah, here’s hoping that he was gone before the dogs got to him.

This is almost unbelievable. I thought people in Alabama routinely shot wild dogs.

I own small dogs and live on an acreage. I always go out with them when they aren’t in the run and I always go prepared to take care of coyotes, large free ranging dogs or whatever might come along to harm them. Same thing for myself when I walk up to the mailbox. There are things in the woods that are hungry and will take whatever they can get.
