Luv, I thought it was beautiful! I planted grapes, and trees, and loads of flowers. As long as I watered stuff - it grew like crazy!
I remember the grass once got so long in one week, that when my husband finally mowed it, we found the moped we thought had been stolen. (Just kidding, of course!)
If I ever get back that way, we’ll be sure to get together! Sweet dreams, now. See ya tomorrow!

...and that is comfort in the heat we have.
Nice..I’ll bet you planted those trees..I have planted trees in 3 Texas yards..Those yards were once cottonfields in the Dallas suburbs.
Here I back up to a wooded ravine..no landscaping, no fence..just lots of trees, ...unruly but I love it.
Thanks for sending the lost pet alert to Jr. I sure do hope her little dog is found. Bella is only 7 months old. Still just a puppy.
Good night, Amy.
Oh, Luv, what a beautiful yard! I can just feel the sky, the warmth, the neighbors. Everytime we would stoke up the grill out back, one of our neighbors would stick his head over the fence and holler, “I smell charcoal!”
We would reply back - “You sure do! And there is plenty of room on this grill for more than these burgers!”
The response would be, “We just picked up some of those T-Bones on sale - over an inch thick! We bought out the store!”
“Bring ‘em on over!”
Another neighbor, “I smell charcoal! We just bought 2 dozen ears of corn at the Farmer’s Market, and the wife has had baked beans simmerin’ in the crock pot all day!”
“Well, get that corn and beans over here!”
Another neighbor - “Do I smell charcoal? We made a huge bowl of potato salad (you remember, from Aunt Sally’s recipe), and were wondering what to fix that would go with it!”
“Well, com’mon over, big guy! And tell the wife, “ The party’s startin’!”
Then, from accross the street - “I hear music and laughter - and Betty just made a Strawberry Sheet Cake! Y’all got room for two more?”
Of course, Billy and Janie (katty corner) would see all the activity - “Hey! If we bring over a couple gallons of Frozen Margaritas and a couple six packs, can we join the fun? Course we’ll bring a gallon of Mary’s fresh made lemonade, too!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OMG - those memories bring tears to my eyes, even today - 35 years later! And, not tears of sadness, but of JOY - for the wonderful days on your ‘oasis in the desert’.
Isnt anybody going to help that poor guy? Fred exclaimed as he and my husband, Tom, realized what had been causing traffic to creep down the busy five-lane road. A man lay sprawled between the lanes, bicycle on top of him, as vehicles simply drove around him. Fred turned on the warning flashers and blocked traffic with his car. Then both guys jumped out to help the shaken man.
Fred and Tom got involved, as did the Samaritan man in Jesus story in Luke 10. Like him, they overcame any reluctance they might have had to reach out to a man in distress. The Samaritan also had to overcome racial and cultural prejudice. The people we would have expected to help showed indifference to the injured mans plight.
Its easy to find reasons not to get involved. Busyness, indifference, and fear often top the list. Yet as we seek to follow our Lord faithfully, we will become more aware of opportunities to show the kind of compassion He showed (Matt. 14:14; 15:32; Mark 6:34).
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus commended the man who had acted out of compassion even though it was inconvenient, difficult, and costly to do so. Then, to us He says, Go and do likewise (Luke 10:37).
