Wonder where Abe's joke came from? Probably not the artist, though he clearly intended to show all of the Presidents reacting to something funny that Abe said.

I'm reminded of an anecdote attributed to the President "I don't mind losing the general, so much, I can make another in 5 minutes.... but I do regret the loss of the horses"

Whether you agree with his politics or not (I don't) Old Abe had a sense of humor, and was funny, I don't care who you are...
