I watched Bob M. on one of the shooting shows a few years ago. He shot a metal silhouette drop target 7 times before it hit the ground. I also watched him hit a balloon at 200 yards with a .38 snubnose and a balloon at 600 yards with a .44 mag. His ammo bill must be massive.

Hitting targets at those distances with those revolvers and those cartridges is doable. Most of us received at least some information for that kind of fun from Elmer Keith. ;-)

if i had to guess, i'd say it's to stop the muzzle blast, as the gun barely gets out of the holster before it goes off.

He’s darned quick.

He’s also right about Wild West shootouts being the creations of Hollywood. In the Old West, the first one to draw won, unless he couldn’t shoot straight. It is humanly impossible to react quickly enough to the sight of someone drawing his gun on you. By the time the eye sees it, the image registers in the brain, and the brain analyzes the nerve inputs, you’re dead.

I believe he shoots single action first then hits the hammer/pulls the trigger simultaneously on the second
