Yes, the word “cracker” has come to mean a low-class southern white as part of the long historical process described above. But it didn’t start out that way, and isn’t used that way in its country of origin.

As a low class Northern White trash of Scots, Irish, English descent, my mothers Family came from Pennsylvania and settled in Mississippi after the Revolution, those that weren't Tories and fled to Canada.
My Daughter in Law is white trash from Alabama according to certain people, ridge runners. the United States would be a lot smaller with out us.
