Sadly, I'm just the opposite. When she started out, I really admired how much she accomplished and how she crossed over to white people as well as blacks. She has really become a vain parody of herself in the past decade. I wish she would stop her show and take a long introspection, then do fewer things of higher quality. But given her near-renunciation of Jesus (she, too, was involved with Rev. Wright) and self-regard as a spiritual leader, she may never make it back to reality. It's a shame.
I know some people who went to one of her shows several years ago—when she took it on the road. They came away very disappointed because before the cameras rolled, when she was warming up the crowd, she had a filthy mouth...said crude things women just don’t say in public...not in the South. They didn’t like her anymore.
I agree with you. Used to watch her show but not anymore. Not since she got involved in politics. I remember watching several times when the audience was made up of upper class white women from the suburbs. I’m familiar with the “type”. I could tell from the way they reacted to her that she was the cool Black girlfriend they would never have in real life, but it made them feel open-minded that they like her so much. The same group most likely voted for Obama...
