>>I think the bigger impact will be felt years from now, as more American youth will be inspired to pursue soccer, instead of baseball, basketball, or football.<<

The ever-present pipe dream of Soccer affectionados everywhere in the US. They said the same thing after the USA team with Layless(sp?) and Brandy Chastain and it got just enough momentum to make the MLS which is hanging in there (pro women’s soccer tanked).

>>And more Americans will know who Tim Howard and Landon Donovan<<

If I don’t know who they are now, what makes you think I’ll know who they are later?

I wonder if now Sir Alex wishes he had Howard back.

It certainly will be interesting to watch. along with all the issues on organisation etc. A World Cup is a major event. Hope the south Africans are up to it. Apparently Obama will be at the opening cermony and opening game :-)

I think it’s good for US Soccer to have an American coach. He knows the culture of the players better. Perhaps better able to sniff out the local talent.

Wow.

Fabiano. That was early.

They’re letting us win because the Obamination has restored international respect to the USA.

That’s a possibility. Was always a bit of a struggle replacing the great Dane, but the stop gap solution with van der sar seems to have worked well enough. But, it was off course always just a stop gap measure.

Less than one minute into 2nd half, Brazil scores.

Halftime sportscasters did nothing but talk down this whole tourney, it just doesn’t matter, blah blah blah.

In that case, hand over the WC and WC host city in 2018.

Well, it isn’t the World Cup that’s for sure.

Though it seems to have grown in stature. Spain seemed to take it very seriously. Ditto Brazil.

No matter. Soccer fans are sure taking notice around the world.

Hope you can pull it off in the second half. Surely there will be more counter attacking opportunities as the Brazilians look for an equalizer.

Cheers.

It’s a bit like a hockey powerplay at the moment.

and, that surely did look like a goal.

The USA has been playing too defensively.

That’s why they let Brazil get back...

The entire second half has been played around the US goal. Brazil has been peppering the goal and the US was not able to hold up under the attack. Darn shame.

US Lost

I see in Soccer the Prevent Defense works the same as in the NFL — it Prevents you from Winning.

Yep. But kudos to team USA ... they fought a good fight and finished better than ever in the Confed Cup. I wish they could’ve pulled off the unexpected, but Brazil is one tough team ... very good and controlling possession.

Despite that we lost we still did very well overall in the tournament. Let us remember that it is extremely hard for any soccer team to defeat Brazil but yet we scored two goals against them in the first half.

Consistently one of the nest in world — staying competitive against them is pretty good.
