How did some cities(Chicago, New York, Phili, St Louis, LA, SF) and some states (IL, NY, PA, CA) get so screwed up? I mean where did they start to go wrong? Just wondering.

Seems to me that when cities reach a certain size people in them become dependent. States like Michigan are dragged along for the ride by cities like Detroit.
Urban areas = Hippies. The Universities are a good starting point...then the urban poor being used.
I could only speak about San Francisco since I live around here.

California went downhill almost entirely because of Mexican immigration.

The people in these states have elected officials who reward undesirable behaviors and punish desirable behaviors...with taxpayer $$$$.
Very simple...they proposed budgets with excessive spending and leveraged future revenues (thinking the good times would never end). When the crap hit the fan, all their projects they thought they’d have funding for thru taxes and borrowing disappeared. It’s why California is in the hole for 28 BILLION dollars.
What I don’t get is that the so called experts in DC are yelling that health care needs to be fixed along with the Environment/Energy and everything else. But the biggest thing that needs fixing is GOVERNMENT. They are the biggest problem yet I don’t hear a thing from anyone that they are the problem and that our GOVERNMENT needs fixing first.
I think it’s connected to a big push a while ago that ‘everyone should go to college.’ Made possible by loans. College was then the place they could make the students over into their own radical images. Salaries paid by taxpayers.
Same reason Willie Sutton robbed banks, because that’s where the money is.
We are all sinners - but when you remove fear and reverence of God from man's eyes - society quickly crumbles. And that has been what we've done in the past 40+ years. Banning prayer and Bible reading from the schools. Denial of the Creator. Worshiping on the altar of 'Tolerance' -- which basically tells people to sin to their heart's content. 'Drink, eat, and be merry' - for there is no judgment or accounting.
Into the vaccuum we create false gods and idols. The idolatry that big government is the new god -- that we only need to throw money at a problem and it will solve all ills...

actually, isn’t SF doing ok fiscally? One can argue that Gavin Newsome likes to get behind issues that are ridiculous but hasn’t he been somewhat of a responsible mayor unlike the idiot that is pissing on Los Angeles, ex gang member Tony Villar?
