VERONA, Wis. -- Authorities said distracted driving was to blame for a head-on crash killing two people over the weekend on Highway 18/151 near Verona.
The Dane County Sheriff's Department said the driver of the motor home who crossed the highway and plowed into an SUV swerved after a dog jumped on his lap.
John Seier, 55, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Travis Brune, 13, of La Motte, Iowa, were inside the SUV and killed on impact. Seier was the driver while the boy was a passenger.
Both victims were killed on impact. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers were hurt.
The motor home driver and a passenger were also injured.
Authorities said those injured in the crash were transported to Madison-area hospitals. A MedFlight helicopter also responded to the crash.
Because of the crash, the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 18/151 were closed for several hours on Saturday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

The moles drive them nuts, don’t they? We’ve got two dogs, one has a bad back and cannot dig any more. He will point out the mole for the stronger and younger dog and direct the digging.

Actually, this is probably true. I knew someone who, while swatting at the dog in the back seat who had barked.... wrecked the car!!
LOL I guess I missed it in the article, I was so sure it must be a pit. And yes, my golden is not allowed to ride around so as to love me while I’m driving (well, love me from afar, only).
My sister’s kid hit me in the nuts twice one Christmas. The 2nd time took me to my knees.
The correct response if not wearing a cup is to loft the child by the hair of his head(or palm his skull, if he has short hair) and explain that hitting below the belt is not by the Queensbury rules.
If wearing a cup, watch how they collapse when the grown-up doesn't fall over, and nurse the bruised forehead, forearm or fist that they tried to use.

It was their 4 year old son. I told my sister and her husband to restrain their brat or the next time, I would kick my brother in law in the nuts for retaliation.
They thought it funny his copying wrestling moves on OTHERS. This was years ago and amazingly he did grow up to be a good person.
In one of the articles I read, they said the dog had been impounded.
I don’t know if that meant just while the owners were recovering or if the owners surrendered the dog.
Very sad, all around.
