BIG difference between Clinton and Sanford. Clinton was clearly not “in love” with Monica. That relationship was pretty one sided.
Sanford was nuts in love with this other woman. Breaking it off is going to be like getting off crack cocaine. it is going to take a while. Focus is a concept that is going to be lost on him for a while.
He is in not mental condition to run anything.
For his own sake, he should just quit. End the death-spiral and get on with his life.
And in Clinton’s case, Monica was an intern who worked for him.
He claims it started "innocently" emailing 8 years ago.
I guess you'd argue that what the woman looked like had nothing to do with the original relationship or his pursuing it UNTIL he was "nuts in love"?
He set himself up...and I re-assert it was because he was thinking with the "other" head.
Although its moot, I say if she'd been the proverbial dog "with a great personality", the emails that led to his going nuts wouldn't have been nearly as enticing to him...and I dare say as frequent.
Again, I'm not condemning him for anything that isn't understandable.
I'm condemning him for having the judgment of a junior high boy in puberty in terms of the absolutely ludicrous judgment he showed in hopping off on that secret tryst.
If my college age son did something like that I'd want his mental soundness evaluated for his own sake.
And my son is not running a state, in the public eye daily or being discussed as a serious candidate to run the country.
The guy has problems, and needs to deal with them in private and allow the responsible adults can do the things he was aligning himself to do before he threw it all away like a childish fool without majorly stupid lapses in judgment.
