Women don’t know the mind of men any more than men know the mind of women. Although I strongly believe I would not fall into the same poor decision he did, I can understand a man doing that, being that I am one. There is a lot of subtle stuff goin’ on in the “motivational” part of the male brain, and the female brain.

A woman who was generally quite critical of men's "inability to control themselves" had to use a testosterone patch for a month for some condition, I don't recall what. This produced serum testosterone levels about 15%of normal male levels.
She called in to say that, after a week, she was practically jumping out of her car to hump stop signs.
After coming off the patch, she said, she was no longer amazed at men who "can't control themselves", she was amazed that there are men that do.
Its not that easy. It takes some time and effort to screw up this bad.

There you go, assuming that ANY politician is intelligent. Most of them (men and women) are dumber than a box of rocks when it comes to personal relationships...comes from their consistent lying and prevaricating over the most trivial of subjects. Sarah Palin exception noted.
Actually it's really no different from intelligent men and women who overeat to the point where they seriously damage their health. They know they shouldn't, but natural biological drives often overpower rational thinking.
He is a politician and the mental makeup of this type of person makes them prone to such things.
Since we have allowed so much power to accrue to our Government the type of people who gravitate to political positions are narcissists. They want power and are VERY self centered and egotistical.
They are prone to not being true to their word in any arena of their endeavors.
