Beer-sodden fans and rain combined for an ugly finish to a long day of golf yesterday, with Tiger Woods and other golfers subjected to drunken heckling as the action at Bethpage Black came to a close.
At 6:42 p.m., dozens of drunken spectators at Hole 10 taunted Woods as he prepared to start his third round in the rain.
"We're on Long Island, baby, where men are men!" one fan yelled. "Put that umbrella down!"
The taunts were mixed with cheers from the majority of the crowd. Woods did not respond to the people who were heckling him but tried to quiet the crowd with a "sshh" hand gesture, putting his finger to his lips, as golfers prepared to tee off on the adjacent 12th tee.
"Suck it up, you've got your own video game!" someone shouted at Woods.
Some fans, apparently disgusted by the hecklers' behavior, walked away from the hole. Others told the vocal contingent to quiet down, which had no effect on the verbal abuse.

Sorry pal, I’ve probably played more golf than you have. But unlike you, I have also played the other, real sports, so I have a basis for comparison. Again, unlike you.
Bingo. That’s not heckling. That’s simply being a loudmouth. Some hecklers are pretty good.
There was NO need for this. A bunch of drunken louts behaving as the ever wonderful adolescent tend to do. No doubt they grabbed their crotch, made belching sounds, and asked they guy next to him to pull his finger.
This is not the way to respond to someone. If you don’t like their politics, fine, but there is NO need to act like drunken fools. This is the type of behaviour that the left engages in to shut up their opponents. We should not do the same.
“How embarrassing for that golf club.”

State owned....no embarrassment required

Believe you're right, and also refused to attend a dinner with Obama if I remember correctly.
Not ribbing. They were indeed being drunken louts. When will we please start asking people to act like grown ups instead of teenagers?
Nice of you to presume so much. What a moron.
Woods interjected NOTHING. He is a US citizen and is allowed to express his opinion. Don’t by the stuff he endorses if you so wish but this behaviour ranks right up with the Brown Shirts of yore
I grew up 15 - 20 minutes from Bethpage. I’m ashamed of the way these people acted. It’s a shame that so many people on this thread are judging all of L.I. and NY by the way these idiots acted, but, at the same time it’s hard to stick up for a county and a state that is constantly doing stupid sh!t...
Well it looks as though life imitating art here, does the movie “Happy Gilmore” come to mind????
Of course the real life Happy Gilmore is the one and only John Daley!!!!!!!!!
Since when is disagreeing with someone politically the DEATH KNELL? That is the behaviour of the authoritarian....conservatives have the capacity to see many sides and be civil with our fellow citizens. You must live in a very small and isolated little world if you only like people who are like you
Golf has a certain etiquette that people are supposed to follow. Baseball, Football, Soccer, Boxing... those are sports where the crowd is EXPECTED to act a certain way. The crowds at Golf tournaments are also expected to act a certain way. If they want to go watch a sport where they can act like idiots then they should have went to a different sporting event.
Would that be the Long Island "men" of the Hampton's or the Fire Island Faeries.
On another note, would it violate the 8th Amendment to shoot on sight all the idiots that scream “get in the hole” after every freaking shot?
Your point is taken, they’re both challenging.
Usually they’re aiming to drive the ball over a target (fence), or to avoid 8 moving targets (9 if you count the catcher). Or to possibly hit behind a (target) runner in order to advance him. The best on the planet are lucky if they get it done 35% of the time.
If golfers had to play with noise around them all the time they’d learn to tune it out just as they do in many other sports. I saw Woods several years ago get upset when someone snapped a pic during his backswing (evidently a noisy shutter).
When you’re ready to start, call me.
Ex-Long Islander here...I know their kind.. loud mouthed, know-it-all, full of ignorance bravado loser types! Mix in a little alcohol and voila! Inside they are filled with jealous rage in their miserable, liberal dominated world of bondage. They don’t mind voting for the crooks whoo tax their beers into oblivion. Truly morons of their own doings!
“In the hole” shouts even on drives on par 5s weren’t uncommon this weekend. ....500+ yards from the hole.
Golf used to be the sport of gentlemen, what happened?
