Golf fans have changed as have tennis fans. Everyone of em think they are at a ballgame where it’s been part of the game to heckle the batter or pitcher for the entire game.Remember when they threw batteries at the outfielder.
Nothing is the off limits anymore. Maybe just maybe beer sales should be banned and bringing in backpacks not allowed as well. Come drunk or stoned and the heat will put you down before the third hole.

At 6:42 p.m., dozens of drunken spectators at Hole 10 taunted Woods as he prepared to start his third round in the rain.

Drunks acting like idiots?!?!?

I thought people only drank for the fine exquisite, refreshing flavor that only a moderate amount of alcohol can provide, and not for any intoxicating effects it may produce.

Maybe they’re just jerks?

Yeah. And they're heckling the wrong Hafrican. Tiger is A-OK.

It's the one in the Whine House who needs to grow a pair.

I would be willing to bet that Tiger's (Celebrity Endorsement) of Barry is driving this.

Was there a guy heckling him from a grassy knoll?

The crowds this weekend (and yesterday in particular) were the rowdiest/drunkest I've ever seen them at any golf tourney. No surprise Tiger wasn't immune from a little heckling. And let's be honest, "put that umbrella down!" and "suck it up, you've got your own video game!" isn't exactly brutal heckling. ...especially for a NYC crowd.

Meanwhile, we're in the last hour of the Open right now. ....with Mickelson just bogeying to drop one back of Glover. And Duval, of all people, is making a charge (now 2 back of the lead).

Wusses, with people running around commanding the paying audience to shut up because these lightweights can’t hit the ball if someone so much as eats a potato chip.

Well, I guess it's about where you want the average scores to be. It's about how little they hit that ball. How very, very little. Excessive noise breaks concentration, leading to more whacks. If no one minds average scores hitting 200, you can treat it like a baseball game, WTH. But usually, people want to see how low the score can actually get, under ideal conditions. That's, like, the point.

Beer-sodden fans and rain combined for an ugly finish to a long day of golf yesterday, with Tiger Woods and other golfers subjected to drunken heckling as the action at Bethpage Black came to a close.

This headline is just like the top-of-the-hour news updates since Friday, "Three men tied for the lead ... TIGER WOODS ALSO PLAYING" and such. I have had no clue whatever to who else is in this tournament, who the lead players are, all I know is TIGER WOODS IS THERE!!! Apparently he is the only PGA member who warrants having his name announced regardless his standing in the tourney. SHEESH, enough already!

Most of the ‘security’ at the major events consists of the older members of the club. They are there to keep the crowd from interfering with play. Unfortunately, there are a lot of classless spectators.

I don’t think he endorsed him. He spoke at the inaguration, without mentioning B.O.’s name.

It was a classless thing for the hecklers to do.

Golf fans are supposed to have some amount of class.

This is Long Island. They were showing class!

I see you have either never played the game, or played for cash.

Which is it?

I know. Professional baseball players(pitchers and batters) have to perform with deafening noises coming down on them constantly and they learn to tune them out for the most part. A professional golfer though can’t hit the ball under any conditions except total silence.

Golf, baseball, soccer, bowling, bass fishing, the most boring spectator sports on the planet.

I wish that the PGA would try an experiment letting the crowd make noise. If an 19 year-old kid has to make a pressure free throw with taunts galore, what about a puss like Phil Mickelson? I’d like to see what concentration they really have. My guess is that they could handle it.

What a crock. How many times does a Major League hitter hit the ball in a given game? Let’s see Tiger Woods step up to the ball on 18 with an opposing fan base doing everything they can to distract him and root against him........like every guy in the Major Leagues has to deal with all season long. Basketball players have to make a big foul shot, standing there alone at the line, while the opposing fans are waving things and screaming at him right behind the basket he is shooting at. But golfers need everyone to be very quiet. Wusses.

….tried to quiet the crowd with a "sshh" hand gesture, putting his finger to his lips, as golfers prepared to tee off on the adjacent 12th tee.
Just one of these moments that makes one go Hmmmmmm....

Golfers, stand beside a teed stationary ball, hitting it with a large club head...need silence (from the few hundred, few thousand watching) to accomplish their task.

Wherein as a hitter in baseball, stands in a box, awaiting a thrown round ball, arriving from varied angles/speeds/ rotations, hitting it with a round bat, accomplished his task in a noisy, sometimes ear popping ridiculing/jeering/cheering, horns trumpeting, organ blaring atmosphere. Hmmmmm...
