The flag carrier, and its regional airline Jazz, will allow customers to book a space under their seats for a pet for travel from July 1. They will pay $50 (£30) for a domestic flight in North America or $100 for international flights.
Owners must stow pets in leakproof carriers weighing in total no more than 10kg (22lb). A maximum of four pets will be carried per flight. An Air Canada spokesman said it would consider the needs of passengers with allergies when allocating seats. The carriage of pets is not allowed on flights to or from Britain.
Next month sees the launch of Pet Airways, an airline that will fly cats or dogs between five US cities. Pets will travel in a Beechcraft 1900 that can hold 50 animals, two pilots and one pet attendant.
An increasing number of Britons plan on taking their dogs on holiday this summer. Bookings from Britons wanting to holiday with their pets are up by 150 per cent at the hotels of Best Western, which offers customised dog-beds and fine dining options from its canine menu. In Britain, the Pet Travel Scheme (Pets) allows pets entering or returning the country to pass freely without having to undergo the usual six-month quarantine period.

My thoughts exactly. For the life of me I cannot understand why people don't board their pets while travelling or don't travel if you cannot stay away from furry critters for a few days.
The Cat Carrier! I haven’t seen that in a while.
Should be mandatory equipment. :D
None of them like to stay in their cages during the flight and it would be cruel to force them.
It's expensive if your pet is on medications like mine is....she needs four med administrations a day (a charge for each one). And you get charged for every time someone has to come in to administer said medication after hours. The last time I boarded my cat for a three-day weekend, the cost was almost $200....and I got cat-cussed at the end of it.
Seems to me like it is time to stop flushing your money away.
For close to 100% of the cats life.
The blue koolaid injection would only cost about $40, at most, and would end all the other problems.
Sorry. Not offing the cat just for airfare. She does well as long as she gets her insulin and tapazole.
Great...at least put the screaming kids next to the barking dogs.
There's a problem with that? :)
You are talking about a move and I was talking about a trip, holiday, or vacation. Either way fido or fluffy should never be allowed in the passenger compartment.
That would put the airlines out of business after all the planes start to smell dog urine and litter boxes.
Of course they could get TARP monies to keep them flying.
The only animals that would fit under seats in planes here would be about 1 pound or so! I am willing to pay for a seat for my dog(20 lbs). He is hypoallergenic. I would hold him as needed. Would be far less of a distraction than a baby. I don’t want him in cargo.
Only cats or dogs? You mean I can’t bring my pet bantam rooster Thor?
I cannot believe you posted that. There are reasons some people think FR is full of cold, heartless folks. That post, well, I hope it doesn’t convey most of FR’s sentiments. Guess, I need a break from this.
Geez, i can’t believe how mean to me you are in your post. i’m glad you aren’t typical of all FR posters. Thank God not everyone is as mean and nasty as you.
Wah, friggin wah. Sometimes it’s the best, most humane solution.

I had to deliver a small puppy to a city 700 miles away on short notice.
There was no way that the 2 pound puppy would be safe in a baggage compartment, especially since (I learned after boarding) a pair of boxers had broken out of their kennels and were running around the ramp after chewing everything they could see.
The flight was late, but the puppy was safe.
It got me a couple of telephone #’s, too... < BG >
