I don’t make much of the smirk in post #2 — normal teenagers photographed in informal settings can have all sorts of expressions — but the smirk in his mugshot was conclusive IMO. No mentally normal person puts on a smirk like that when they’ve just been arrested for butchering 19 of the beloved pets of their neighbors — if you really didn’t do it, you’d look serious, worried, and scared.

Mom’s website (since taken down) was a scary piece of work — she was a ditzy “life coach”, charging people money for telling them how wonderful they are and how the bad things happening to them in their lives aren’t their fault (e.g. one of the “testimonials” was from an accountant who couldn’t get a job because she didn’t speak English very well — she felt so much better about herself after butcher’s Mom told her that her English wasn’t the problem). And Mom was also on the board of the local citizen’s crime watch outfit. Funny she seemed not be paying much attention to what her son was up to.

Now it appears Dad is in total denial too. The kid is running red lights, driving with a suspended license (wonder what he did to get it suspended), smoking pot, and skateboarding at 2AM, and Dad just knows he didn’t do the cat killings. Who was providing a car to this kid with no valid license? There’s no mention of the kid having a job, much less the sort that could pay for a car in addition to supporting his pot habit.
