Black dogs find it harder to get adopted

Maybe Bo Obama can change this.
According to a story in the Charleston Post and Courier finds that black dogs seem to linger longer at animal shelters, even as their brown, tan and, I guess, otherwise spotted peers find homes.
That's definitely "the shelter worker's perception," throughout the country, Jacque Schultz, the senior director of community outreach for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told the paper. "If you see a row of 20 black dogs, they fade from your memory."
"There's very little in the way of research" on whether black dogs are euthanized at higher rates, she added.
Black cats, sadly, have it just as bad.

only because their eyes don’t stand out

It might be true. I prefer lighter than black fur in order to see if there are any fleas or skin problems on a dog.

Well, I adopted a black kitty and the other kitty is black and white. I’m pro-black and pro-white! LOL!

And if more black dogs get adopted, does that mean more nonblack dogs—that people apparently prefer—get put down in their stead?

...interesting. Out here in the wilderness, it seems that dark colored dogs are less likely to be killed by cougars or bears.

Just a short while back there was a similar article abouy black cats being the victims of not getting adopted. I have a black cat and she’s beautiful. And I adopted her. My friend had a black dog until recently when she died. we broke the mold, the two of us.

all kidding aside, I think one big issue is the black fur... it is far more noticeable around the house than are lighter colored dog furs.

Ran outta pit bull stories? This story is absolutely stupid. Anyway, I love my "thug" that came outta the Dallas Oak Cliff Shelter. Loyal, cute and loves my daughter.

Most loyal Boxer ever! And can be described as black, lol!
