Sextuplets mother ignored advice to abort

The mother of the UK's first sextuplets for more than a quarter of a century has told how she ignored medical advice to abort several of the foetuses.

Nuala Conway, 26, from Dunamore in Co Tyrone, said she was warned about the high risks of carrying on with the multiple pregnancy, but decided to put her faith in God.

She was given the option of terminating some of the unborn babies at 14 weeks and was advised that this was the best option.

However, Mrs Conway, who is a Roman Catholic, said that the suggestion of a termination made her and her husband, Austin, distressed and decided to press ahead with the multiple pregnancy.

"I prayed as much as I could for a child," she said.

"Doctors gave us a couple of days to think about it, but we knew without discussion what we both wanted."

Thank God for people who respect life.

Each life is a gift from God.

Sextuplets mother ignored advice to abort.

Well, isn't that her choice?

But, but, but.....it is the WRONG CHOICE in the eyes of the all-knowing, all-caring, nanny-state. God save us from government nanny-statists.

The scenario that a Catholic decided to choose life is so foreign to us.

Of course that is their choice. But it was not the choice that is in vogue.

This is probably due to the British socialized health care. IVF is very careful not to let this happen unless the doctor is a nutjob like our Octomom’s “doctor.”

This mom was probably given fertility meds and then told to go home and make babies that way. She would have needed several ultrasounds, and would have needed to cancel the cycle (no sperm allowed in) if more than 3-4 follicles were ripe. It’s cheap but dangerous to do this kind of treatment without the proper controls.

If she spontaneously had these with no meds, then ignore all I said, but the way she said she had longed for a baby makes me think that there were fertility drugs used.

I sure hope you're right. IVF is not an option for Catholics; it requires you to commit a mortal sin to collect the sperm.

The Conways, who were married in 2006, did not conceive the babies through IVF. The births are the first sextuplets in the UK since the Waltons, all girls, who were born in Liverpool in 1983.
