Catherine provided the entertainment - the Chicago actress performed dressed as a 1920s flapper as she showed off her dancing skills onstage.

The 39-year-old, who has two children with Douglas, had earlier arrived hand-in-hand with her husband.

On the red carpet she wore a flowing scarlet bustier dress, with a thigh-high split.

I recall that “flappers” were called that because they didn’t wear garters to hold their stockings up; therefore their hose were “flapping.”

This is borne out by the contemporaneous song, “Five-foot-two,” which includes the line,

“Turned-up nose, turned-down hose. Flapper, yes-sir, one of those ... has anybody seen my gal?”

There is a rule that says there must be pictures of CZJ posted on Maureen Dowd threads. There is no rule that says pictures of Maureen Dowd must be posted on a CZJ thread. I recommend that such a rule NOT be implemented.

I also warn of an imminent unexplained run on the whiskey aisle at the liquor store nearest to the Dowd abode. I expect this condition to last for the next week at least.

I saw the original on Broadway! I have both film versions on tape, (got a conversion dohickey from Roxio and will be converting the VHS tapes to DVR!)
