Why kill a cat over scratches on car?
ONE of the common conflicts between humans and cats in an increasingly dense urban setting arises from our increasing attachment to material things.
The more expensive the item, the stronger the attachment. The stronger the attachment, the more intense is emotional suffering from losing them.
A highly educated woman, who recently acquired a brand new car that cost "40 grand" was so worried about possible scratches from the few cats in the carpark that she complained to the Cat Welfare Society and the town council for the removal of the cats.
As far as the town council is concerned, that means activating the pest controllers for the cats to be killed at the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA).
Rejecting an offer of a free car cover from the Cat Welfare Society, the woman threatened to claim damages against the town council if she could capture the video footage of feline "culprits" with a camera installed in the car.
She said that even cats should not escape being punished.
Paint on a car is manufactured to withstand the tremendous force of the gravel missiles as it speeds along the road, otherwise every car will be pitted all over as it speeds along the highway!
A paint technologist on this website (www.flippyscatpage.com/carpaint.html) wrote: "The worst a cat can do to in normal circumstances is leave cute little muddy cat prints - annoying but not inherently damaging."
High ground
Cats, by nature, like to rest on "safe" high ground or seek the warmth radiating through the car bonnet.
Being animals, cats don't know that it is "wrong" to do so.
A friend of mine, who grew up in the US, told me that when her brother drove home a brand new car, her father "christened" it with some scratches.
The father had the wisdom to save his son from "future sufferings" from inevitable scratches and dents.
The car has no feelings, no matter how badly scratched it is, but it is we human beings who feel the pain because we define our happiness in terms of material possessions.
Attachment, and not the cats, is the cause of our anger and therefore our wish to take revenge on the cats by wanting them killed.
The solution is obvious but has eluded many of us.
Years ago I spent about twenty dollars on a trap which will hold a cat and most small animal pests. Easily removes problem cats. Good investment although the city pound is a long way from my house.
Had a cat jump on my new and pristine corvette last year and now, I have 5 little scrathes all in a row on my hood from where it tried to get traction. I couldn’t shoot it because it was in town but the antifreeze I left for it did the trick. then my own pet feline dug its claws into my brand new $2,000 leather sofa within 24 hours of having purchased it. She was given to a no kill shelter a day later. Good riddance. cats suck.
Anti freeze is a pretty horrible way for an animal to die. I don’t think I would proudly advertise the fact that I had done that.
Anybody or anything that scratches my car deserves death. Cats included.
people that let their cats run around loose suck. The effing thing did several thousand dollars worth of damage to my car. I don’t feel a bit of remorse for the thing and I would do it again.
Thank you.
I can sympathize with your experience, but our society has become so self-centered and unmannerly that no thought is given to the feelings and sensitivities of others. So many people believe that if they embrace the liberal agenda, they exculpate themselves of their selfish and boorish behavior.
A.) If this particular pet owner loved his/her pet so much, he/she probably shouldn’t have let it run loose in town (where there is an ordinance against that actually).
B.) This cat did about $2,000 worth of damage to a brand new Corvette so I give a flying fart how you feel about it, how the pet’s owner feels about it, or how little Timmie feels about it.
C.) I have rescued numerous animals. My dog was a rescued puppy in fact. Everyone of its litter mates perished. the aforementioned cat that I gave to the no kill shelter was a rescue too. It was covered in hundreds of flees when I caught it in a box trap. All of its litter mates unfortunately died cruel deaths at the hands of mother nature. The mother was killed by the feral cat that knocked her up I believe. The baby raccoon I just saved last week was a rescue as well. It’s family was killed by the neighbor’s German Shepard. I love animlas but I draw the line when they become destructive and when the owners make no attempt to control them. I’m done talking to you about this.
You are a sick bastard. Get some help.
The old antifreeze trick! That same trick caused a local man about 2500 dollars in fine’s and he now has a felony conviction on his record.
Since you love your car so much why didn’t you have it in the garage under a cover with the door locked? Heaven forbid a bird might poop on it or scratch it with theyre feet, it might get rained on or a leaf could fall on it. You poisoned your neighbors cat and then want to make it better by claiming some BS story about how you love and rescue animals. Give me a break!
go to hell.
see post 35.
It might not be prudent to shoot this kitty using a pellet gun.
Or this cougar.
Pretty effing hypocritical for someone who boasts of having killed 57 rattlesnakes “this year”. and who says “I’ll kill everyone of them I see”. You the man Dusty Road! As I said, go to hell.
Also, poisoning cats with antifreeze is inhumane, immoral, and a felony in most jurisdictions. Thus, your level of humanity is also FAIL.
