Unfortunately, my PC crashed and it now has a new hard drive.
What I need it to be able to do connect my iPod to my iMac without losing everything I have on it. I have been told that if I connect my iPod to my iMac, iTunes would remove any tunes that I didn’t buy from them. I have thousands of tunes that I can no longer replace.
Other than buying another iPod, any ideas?
What "over-priced Apple PCs"?
Firewire 800?
There are several programs available to rip music from iPods to computers. Just do a search and you should find some. iTunes won’t automatically wipe your iPod, just be careful when the warnings come up.
You said — See this is why Im glad Im not on AT&T, the chances of me fighting the urge to upgrade my iPhone every year would be impossible.

Well, what you may not know is that the *improvements* that come out next year and the year after are mostly *software improvements* — and the older owners get the *new stuff* without having to buy a new phone.
Now, ain’t that special! LOL...
Of course, if you’re talking about adding some specific hardware (a few items like that) — then that requires an hardware upgrade.
BUT, I’ve got *newer iPhones* without ever having to buy a new iPhone, simply by doing the software upgrade. What a deal!!
You said — Ubuntu... Still free.
—
And still as useless as it ever was for the consumer... LOL...
You said — I built my own computer using post-it notes and 3-day-old coffee. My OS has 4 lines of code, counting the notes.

Hey! I can count to ten — in Base 2, no less — on mine... :-)
[ the only trouble is that I always get the 1s and 0s mixed up... ]
When you connect your iPod to your iMac, what will happen is that iTunes will attempt to sync it with the iTunes data on your iMac. As far as I know, if you log into your iTunes account on the iMac, it should authorize the iPod and all will be well. I’m not 100% on this though: when I switched to the Mac, I carried my entire library over (all 80 GB of it...) and then re-synced from scratch.
You may want to write a post on the iLounge forums or Apple Support Discussion forums, as there could be a solution to your problem out there that neither of us knows about.
You said — Remarkably, I did not turn gay or lib.

I keep a Bible next to mine, in case I have to cast out any demons!
You said — Anti-Apple trolls would be much more entertaining if they bothered to at least update their talking points.

Well, I feel sorry for them; it is difficult to hit a moving target.
[ you know..., like skeet shooting... it’s “up, up and away...” and there she goes...]
I see a number of other articles listing all the items talked about — but — is there a video of it on Apple’s site?
Right on the front page of Apple.com, below the iPhone 3GS image, is a video link titled “Watch the Guided Tour.” Until video of the keynote presentation comes up, that’s the best we’ll get. And honestly, it’s probably better than the keynote.
Yeah, I saw that one, so I guess (as you say) the best I’m going to get now... :-)
iPhone 3GS: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB. White and black versions. Current iPhone 3G stays on market. 8Gb model only. Now just $99.Ah, a 3GS... finally I can upgrade my IIgs... ;')
Sadly, there's a second-level to that joke for UNIX geeks.
Safari 4 now out of beta. Safari 4.0 ships today.
Software Update invoked from the black Apple logo symbol. It took longer to restart than usual, tho.
You forgot to mention the “doesn’t have drivers for anything not recent or mainstream” and the “no consistent interface” problems.
:P
Casting out daemons requires at least a third-level spell. And sometimes they make the saving throw.
I just had to introduce a whole new kind of geekdom ...
I finally got home and could download it and install. My 24" iMac took about the same time as before to restart. I do miss the blue progress barometer in the URL address field. I wish I could turn it back on.
It's faster than the beta version.
