I've been using 7 for six months and I really like it. It's very stable (especially the RC release) and very intuitive. I don't know enough about Apple to compare or contrast the difference.
I've got 7 on all the machines in the house (which is a big number), and the processors are everything from a 1.4GHz Celeron Laptop to a i7 940 Desktop, and they all run great on it. There's some games that don't work, but frankly they're older games that my kids really don't use anymore. All in all, I give 7 a big thumbs up.

Apple-Macs are a Left-wing religious cult. It won't matter how good Win 7 is (and it is very very good) they will sneer at it. That is why most Macs are owned by Liberals...they have arrogance and little substance at their core.
The proof? When one of their own begins to question the "innate superiority" of OS-X they turn on him and denounce him. It's just like the way Libs react when one of their own wake up and realize how wrong he has been.

I've been using 7 for six months and I really like it. Me too. I've run it on a variety of machines both at work and at home. It was a pleasant surprise.
As for the Mac? It's a Mac. In Consumer Report's latest PC issue the Mac dominates all 3 laptop categories. But none of them are recommended or considered a good buy because of the cost.
Macs were built to last. Who knew though that computers - especially laptops (notebooks, whatever) - would become disposable?

1. Have you tried virtualized XP under Win7?
2. Just how slow does your laptop feel after running an i7 at more than twice the mhz speed?
