An 18-stone Chicago police officer faces up to five years in jail after he was filmed repeatedly striking a woman in a bar.
A judge last night dismissed Anthony Abbates claim that he was acting in self-defence after a barmaid attempted to stop him coming behind the bar. A video of the officers violent response has become infamous in the United States as it was replayed on television and the internet.
Last night, Abbate was convicted of aggravated battery by John J Fleming, a Cook County Circuit judge. The policeman was cleared of two charges of official misconduct by the judge, who said there was no evidence Abbate abused his position as a police officer during the assault. Karolina Obrycka, a Polish immigrant, was beaten when she refuse to serve any more drinks to the inebriated policeman in February 2007.
The incident was captured on a CCTV camera, which recorded the drunken officer going behind the bar after he was told to leave by Ms Obrycka. As she pushed and pulled at him, Abbate appeared to shrug her off. He then suddenly fell or was pulled off balance, crashing back into the bar, his head bouncing hard off a shelf support. Abbate responded by slamming the barmaid against the bar, and then violently throwing her to the floor. He repeatedly kicked and punched her on the floor as she struggled to evade the blows. He held her by one hand as he took powerful swings at her head with his right fist.

Don’t sweat it. I search all the time for stuff and can’t find it so when people give you a hard time for posting something already there, they’re idiots. It’s fine to notify someone but some people on here are ridiculous.
250ish
1 Stone = 14 lbs.
Thanks. I got a kick out of it since the headline over in London focused on that and it really was a significant point too since that lardo could’ve killed that lady very easily. I hope somebody bashes his head in a few times when he gets behind the bars. I know, I’m mean, but I have no sympathy for creeps like this, drunk or not.
Thanks!
The POS should be shot.
You sound a very rare guy, and extremely violent, how many times have you been in jail?
Hmph. Well, I've never been in jail - never even received a speeding ticket in 30 some years of driving. But, I did spend 20 years in the Marines. Maybe that's where you sense some "violence".
Apparently you'll let your female family members get savaged BY LAW ENFORCEMENT and do nothing about. I'm in the other camp. This guy is the worst kind of criminal and bully. The kind with a gun and a badge. The only thing people like this understand is violence.
No but I have been around violence enough and lived the life long enough to know when someone is posturing, 45 or 50 year old men that make claims like you just claimed on the internet, have arrest records.
I didn't sense violence in you, I sensed computer bravado.
OK Dr. Freud. It looks like you psycho-analytical skills match your ability to pick Presidential candidates. Good luck with that.
B. Is why you should always have out of state (off shore if possible) monitoring for your surveillance system. Always.
Apparently at least some of the people in the bar knew he was a cop. Officer Gerald Callahan, who was involved in a similar bar beating subsequent to this one, was found by Niles, Illinois police, passed out ON TOP OF HIS FIREARM in some bushes.
If you investigate the timeline of this incident, you’ll see a consistent pattern of collusion, favoritism and deference shown to Abbate by Chicago Police Deparment personnel at every level. I have no doubt that the incredible delays (weeks, in fact) in his apprehension were to ensure that there would be no evidence that he was carrying a firearm at the time of this cowardly attack. He actually went to court once to petition to be allowed to possess firearms so that he could remain on the payroll.
Another Chicago cop (Alvin Weems) who fatally shot an unarmed man (Michael Pleasance) in the face (on video, no less) and lied about it, was never criminally prosecuted and received as “punishment” a 30 day suspension.
Given the recent history of the Chicago PD, and the knowledge of the bar patrons, I’m sure nobody wanted to be the subject of a “justifiable” homicide by a Chicago cop, “defending himself” from an “unprovoked attack” by the barmaid and any wouldbe good samaritans.
