I lost 100 pounds a couple years back. Keeping them off has been almost as much of a challenge, but so far, so good.
There are a lot of ways to burn more calories than you consume. Without exercise, you are going to have to eat less, but I did a lot of my diet that way. I lost mine too fast (did 1,000 cals a day until the weight was gone) and I have paid a metabolic price for that. My metabolism is still low.
So for doing it the healthy way, I'd go with calorie king or weight watchers. I still eat the weight watchers / lean cuisine stuff now that I'm maintaining. Weight watchers is a point system that produces pretty good results, and Calorie King is a website that helps you out.
I resisted exercise for years, but have found it the only way to keep the weight off. I do an hour outdoor walking or treadmill walking per day. Sometimes I use an exercise bike instead.
Good luck with your weight loss.

Did you purchase a scale?
Is it healthy to weigh youself daily/weekly or just judge by how (loosely) your clothes fit?
