In 1939, our nation still had the largest manufacturing base in the world. Today, it is in China. Yesterday, the sale of the Hummer brand to China means yet another piece of our manufacturing base is headed across the Pacific.
In 1939, we were the world’s largest creditor nation (thanks mostly to buying Britian’s WW1 bonds). Today we are it’s largest debtor.
In 1939, we did not have ticking time bomb of unfunded entitlement obligations. We sure do today.
In 1939, there were still patriots at the New York Times and other media outlets to call attention to this reckless spending. Today, the media is the propaganda organ of our socialist regime.
