Pit bulls have a pretty crummy reputation these days. Between the myth of a pit bulls locking jaw and the constant news stories depicting the dogs as ruthless-attackers of innocent children, its no wonder that many people have grown afraid of the breed. The fact is these dogs are no more evil than any other breed. Indeed, pit bulls usually score very high on dog temperament testing, they have a passing rate of 84% compared to the average dog score of 77%, and their sweet disposition around children has earned them the nickname of nanny dog
There was a Purina Dog of the Year who was a PBT, too. I forget her name.
Pass the popcorn please......
Bull poop! Its not the number is instances that is troubling, it is the devastating results of a pit bull attack, as opposed to a Yorkie attack. The breed was developed for pit fighting large beasts and other dogs(hence the name "pit" bulls). This means they not only have aggressive tendencies in the gene pool but when they occasionally act on them the consequences are often catastrophic.
What a sweetheart.
Thanks for posting.
There are a number of famous pit bulls that have served as members of the armed forces, and, despite the fact that the army and navy have outlawed pits on base, at least one marines squadron still has a pit bull serving as their mascot. This is nothing new, pit bulls have been serving in the armed forces for hundreds of years. A pup named Jack Brutus (shown at left, photo Via The Smithsonian Institute) served as official mascot of Company K, First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. While Jack was merely a mascot and never actually served in the action, other war dogs have.
I pulled up next to a parked car with one in it, while the owner was inside shopping. Every attempt to exit by my driver’s door was met with the pit bull trying to get through the window at me. I finally backed out and moved to another parking space.
I won’t allow my dog outside when I know there’s an owner walking one. Nice way to live isn’t it? I have no use for these animals. None, whatsoever. And the owner who’s dog ever attacks me, my family or pets, had better find a new place to live. Fast.
Thanks for posting this!
One of the sweetest dogs we ever owned was a Pit Bull named Rosco.....great around our grand-kids and just wanted to love and be loved. He was a second hand dog that was given to my son, because the girl that owned him wouldn’t walk him and did nothing with him. Her mom told if she wasn’t going to do anything with him...she needed to give away!
My 23 yr. old son came to me asking me if he could bring him to our house. I said,”Absolutely NOT....I’m not having any Pit Bulls around this house!!” But Mom, he replied with big tears welled up, “she’s going to sell him to some guys that plan to fight him and Rosco’s a lover not a fighter...Please, Mom?”
I relented, so we built a dog run between the fence and the house, but he didn’t stay there. Rosco soon became the love or our lives with his sweet and loving disposition. Actually, as usually happens, I’m the one he adopted! ; )) We had him for over 12 yrs. and we miss him terribly!!
Translation: Subby was unleashed and allowed to indulge in his favorite pastime of ripping a person to pieces, until his handlers pulled him from the shredded, but still barely breathing German.
Have you ever read the stats on the damge that pit bulls do to peopole each year.
I suggest that there is place on the battlefield for pit bulls, but that is not relevant for having one in the yard next to someones young children.
You may want to do an article on John Wayne Gacey being a clever clown at children’s parties.
“I have no use for these animals. None, whatsoever.”
That’s a shame. You are missing out on enjoying the unconditional love of a truly wonderful friend. We adopted our “Pit” from a shelter when she was 6 months old. She will be 15 years old on her next birthday. She is a treasure. I’ve had dogs most of my life (I am in my late 50s), but this little angel is special.

I have a chihuahua that does serious damage to peopoles ,too!
You got my support.
I do not have a problem with Chihuahas hurting peopoles either. Maybe you should consider training that little dog to hurt even more peopoles.
Nice. But at least Gacey never crapped on my front lawn.
