Could you survive a week eating "wild?" (Oregon)

PORTLAND, Ore. – Becky Lerner is hungry - but determined.

She is trying to live off “wild” food for a week in Portland, foraging the parks, yards, open spaces and even sidewalks for edibles as a way to not only connect with the land but to learn a valuable survival skill.

“Should the trappings of modernity become unavailable to us one day, knowing how to find food without grocery stores or even farms will surely come in handy,” the 26-year-old Northeast Portland woman said.

She is not allowing herself to Dumpster dive or feed off gardens during her week-long challenge, but an herbalist and survivalist are helping her find food.

Knowing how to find food if the shtf is a good and noble thing. However, imagine looking out onto your property and seeing that purple/red rug bobbing over the weeds.

She's picking that out of a neighbors yard. I'm sure she got permission from the property owner.

I guess using a gun to find food is not part of the equation?

What a cretin.

If TSHTF and the grocery shelves are empty, so too will the dumpsters be.

Keep your pets (and children) indoors!

Cheers!

Last lines of the article says:

(A warning for those who would try a similar challenge. You need to educate yourself on what plants are edible and what plants are poisonous.)

Thank goodness the MSM is there pointing out the obvious for us who can't think for ourselves.

"On Monday, a KATU reporter ventured into a forest near the Sandy River Delta with Lerner as she searched for something to eat."

There's nothin like roasted reporter.

We had a below average morell season this year. Found most around elms. May be because of the excessive rain we have had.

Me and a buddy of mine used crossbows one year to get rid of big, old grass carp that outlived their usefullness. But hook line and sinker will always be my favorite.

She’s part of the reason I left the PNW.

She’s a pretender.

Going for a week is nothing more than a diet.

Without the “panic” factor of having no end and no fridge to resort to, a lot changes. The “panic” factor is what must be dealt with to survive.

If she wants to test her self, she needs to do what Tom Brown, Jr. did. Go into the middle of the Northern Cascades for one year starting off with nothing but a good knife.

Smart girl.

Of course you could survive, unless you ate something poisonous or fell off a cliff. It takes much longer than a week to experience any significant harmful effects from not eating.
