I’ve had so many shocks over the last 6 months that I actually was reading it thinking...”that figures”.
No kidding. It’s getting more and more difficult to differentiate between satire, truth, and scare tactics.
It’s certainly plausible in this day & age.
They promise to replace all private grocery stores with a national system of government commissaries, which purportedly will operate far more efficiently without the administrative overhead required to make a profit.

This line sounds just screwball enough for it to be real in this insane age.
Good article. You have to shock people into recognizing the loss of their own liberty these days.
One of the great scandals of our age is the fact that America spends more on Pet food than any other nation does on food.
Well, they got that much right...
scandal ???
Your profile says:
Born and raised in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, just north of the Wisconsin border. Now living in North Carolina near Raleigh. I am a conservative minded person but an independant thinker.
I'll agree .. as long as by "independant" (sic) you don't mean intelligent

The scary part is that there will be some people who think this is a serious and good idea.
When there's a flow to go with, I'm the one holding back, at least until I know exactly what the flow is and where it's going. I'm one of the few people who thought the Dubai Ports Deal was good for America.
The idea of snack-food tax has been tossed around by the usual suspects i.e food nazis/greenies who will spare no effort in “saving” Americans from themselves.
There should be a tax on vegan/vegetarian foods as they result in people living longer and burdening the Social Security/Medicaid/Medicare systems.
And even if they don't live longer, it's the "feeling" that they do which is most harmful to the environment with their exhaling of greenhouse gases and destruction of green plants that take in CO2 and emit O2.
It is true. They use the term “food security” like they do “social justice”.
Remeber how Obama said last Sep/Oct that we couldn’t drive the cars we do, eat what we do and keep our home at 72 degrees and not worry about what the world thinks of us? He said, “Those days are over.”
Bet joggers exhale more CO2. We’ll have GPS on us and not just our cars.
But they don't destroy the plants which convert the CO2 into oxygen with their actions/tastes.

I’m one of those spending a small fortune on special pet food and meds. My dog will die without them and they are costly — can’t have meat based proteins found in all the standard pet foods.
I resent the price I’m paying but should I let the dog go blind again and die? Her life will be shorter anyway due to her genetic liver condition (this was discovered after I’d had her nearly a year).
I’m not one of those “keep them alive at all cost” people but really don’t think it a good idea to just feed her the cheapest standard protein rich dog food on sale and blame myself when she dies quickly. What would you do? Try to keep your animal as healthy as possible or contribute knowingly to its demise?
I was just playing along with the “everything is bad” theme on these things.
Some of these things I believe they decide the answer first and then just back fill.
That's a good point. We simply can't afford to eat one single vegetable while the Earth's climate is in peril.
Be kind to plants. Eat meat. :)
