Heads up, Google Chrome-hounds. Version 2.0 of your favorite, lightning-fast, "anti-establishment" browser has been released, and it's quicker and more feature-packed than ever. That is, if you take the word of the massive corporation that designed it.
Over at the official Chrome blog, Googleite Darin Fisher says that a few of the new additions were included in the re-beta-ed beta released back in March, but the new version does contain some new features and sports faster speeds and increased stability thanks to the proper squashing of some 300 bugs.
One of the new, and predictably appreciated, features lets you remove those dastardly thumbnails from your most visited pages that popped up every time you opened a new tab. It also includes a full screen mode and a form autofill feature. All welcomed additions, and the browser’s speed continues to impress (and improve apparently, which is even more impressive), but I wonder how many users have Chrome set as their default browser.
Care to enlighten me?

Go for an open source Android phone — I was an early adopter of the G1 and love it. There are a bunch of additional Android phones about to hit the market from various carriers and manufacturers.
I experimented with Safari for PC and Chrome, but have settled on using Chrome almost all the time, because the UI is a little better than Safari for PC. Both are blazing fast — much much faster than IE and Firefox.
No lie. I went to the regular old google site today and it had my email address at the top of the screen. Screw that.

I haven’t tried Chrome yet but I really like Safari. I can’t figure out what the big deal is about Firefox though. I think Firefox stinks.

Thanks but no thanks. I want nothing to do with GOOGLE. When I use Google I go almost always go through another server. No Google tool bars, NOTHING from Google. I check my registry every couple of weeks to make sure there is nothing that says google in there. If it there is, it gets deleted.
Still have a 1.x version that I play with occasionally, but I still use Firefox for the most part.
Chrome just doesn't have options I prefer, like opening in a new tab.
Maybe I just don't know how to set it up properly, but it's not for lack of trying.
Nothing against Google, I've used it for years, it's a good search engine.
I also use Yahoo, and Dogpile, and whatever makes me curious.
Chrome is faster, I'll give it that.
It's a little better for viewing video, but I've found that for the most part, it's the site's servers, not the browser.
I'll probably download the latest update and try it out, though.
Since I have so many computer users in my household, I am usually stuck with the oldest and slowest. Therefore, my browsing experience had left much to be desired. Chrome has made it a pleasure to browse again. Fast, with a low overhead.
The tab system on Chrome is vastly superior to Safari for PC. Also, imported bookmarks from IE are way easier to access in Chrome than Safari. However, I still use Safari occasionally. I’m keeping an eye on it, since both Chrome and Safari for PC are still in Beta, so who knows what improvements may come along. You might give Chrome a test drive. The price is right, LOL.
I agree with you about Firefox. I think some have been using it for years, b4 Safari for PC and Chrome came along, so just kind of got attached to it. But I tried it way back when, and found it wouldn’t work with certain websites I frequented, so I dumped it.
Sorry, but I’m not sure I understand your question. They are termed open-source, as I understand it, because it is really easy and cheap for developers to come along and make applications for the Android OS. As opposed to iphone, where it is very expensive and difficult for developers to get in the door.
Also, the Android OS is very very easy to hack (called rooting the phone), and T-Mobile is well aware that many have rooted their G1’s, and doesn’t bother its subscribers whatsoever about it. Rooting the phones open up lots and lots of new possibilities, and there are many applications in the Market, and on the internet, most free, for rooted phones. I rooted my phone. The OS is not static — updates to the OS are continually being released. A long-anticipated major one has just been released, with many many new features for the phone, called “cupcake”.

With so many Android phones coming out now and in the near future, I just saw a projection that the % of the smartphone market for Android will increase by 900% in 2009. One phone, the G1, on one carrier, went from zero to 5% of the smartphone market in the US in 6 months — fairly impressive. If you want a little more info on the G1, visit my FR home page.
The bugs were so bad in the first version of Chrome, I will never use this browser again. I have never had so many crashes from ANY software ever installed on my system.
Any software released which crashes as frequently as v 1.0 did, is not worthy of my time (or trust) in v 2.0.
But not yet ready....
