A poem supposedly written by Bob Dylan as a teenager is an old country song, it emerged yesterday.
The bombshell came just 24 hours after the original handwritten version of Little Buddy was put up for auction by Christie's.
It had been touted as an example of Dylan's "brilliance even as a 16-yearold". But, as a country fan pointed out, most of the words were from a song by Canadian Hank Snow.
It was recorded in 1948 - 11 years before Dylan submitted his poem to a Jewish summer camp newspaper in Wisconsin.
Christie's is pressing on with the auction in New York as it is for charity. And as it points out, the manuscript still remains among the earliest known handwritten Dylan lyrics.
I commit lyrics to memory by writing them down, Repeatedly!! It works for me. I guess that would make me a plaguarist (sp) too!!
Why didn’t someone do a Simon Cowl on Dylan...
“Bob, the songs are great, you’ll make millions on them..but.. you’re Tonedeaf!”
And less than 24 hours after Dylan turned 68.
Yesterday, May 24, was his birthday.
This is a surprise? Does anyone think any of these 60’s hippies had an original thought? Why do you think they had to carry around “quotes” from their great Chairman?
Lol. Even if he did claim to write it when he was 16, is that supposed to dismiss or taint all the song writing he did as an adult? Lol. Maybe this should be in breaking news? Lol.
Ugh, what kind of crazy man would be born on that day.
