“It could only be Chet Atkins.”

Funny, I’ve been checking out lots of music recently, and sooner or later, no matter what I was looking at,it always came back to Chet Atkins. I truly believe he is one of the most important ever - just watching those videos, the thing that most impresses is his effortlessness. Other guitar players made a big deal of it, made faces, made a lot of noise, etc. Chet just played, Anything and everything. And produced. And discovered many great stars. How many other guitarists contributed as much overall as Chet? And, yeah, sometimes you have to get a number of years removed to see the real contributions. This, I believe, is true of anybody.

And James Burton isn’t on that list, either. Not a very good list.

Ha! Excellent, I've yet to see him live...I heard he had some health issues recently so I don't know if he's touring.

Yngwie's great on the G3 DVD, playing Hendrix's Voodoo Child with Satriani and Vai. Sort of a cross between Bach and a Cave Man.

Tommy's such a great guy - entertainer, musician, friend.

If you close your eyes during the show it sounds like there are 5 guitars playing when it's just Tom on one acoustic.

His latest album has a beautiful song with his wife. Hope Tom's doing ok and gets back on the road with a healthy recovery. thanks for the link...hadn't heard that song.

“.... Jimmy Hendrix said you better ask Phil Keggy.”

I heard that YEARS ago (like 20). I think it is still up for debate on if Jimi said that or not. But Keagy IS unbelievable. From your tagline, I’m sure you know he does Christian music now.

I saw him last year and he got a request from the audience - I forget which song. He said “Well, most of the folks in the band don’t know that one”. (He gets a group of VERY gifted players together for a once-in-awhile tour). “But - we’ll give it a try”. The bass player and drummer MUST have known it. But the other guitar play was just sitting there for awhile watching and then started playing. The violinist and another guy (keyboards?) were flipping through folders of sheet music! They finally gave up and grabbed a tamborine and hand drums!

And although not the greatest guitar player, I think Alex Lifeson should be right up there.

Dickie Betts, Derek Trucks and Robbie Robertson. Wes Montgomery on the jazz side.

Also a little known guitarist the late Roy Buchanan. All above have tasteful styles IMHO.

Actually....when I stopped and thought about it I realized I'm sort of a hypocrite: I did the same thing about a year ago...lol

But, I was going more Chemical Break than anything else.

You're welcome.

I didn't think it would go this far, and I have been introduced to a lot of new people.
