BEIJING Chen Fuchao, a man heavily in debt, had been contemplating suicide on a bridge in southern China for hours when a passer-by came up, shook his hand and pushed him off the ledge.
Chen fell 26 feet onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion laid out by authorities and survived, suffering spine and elbow injuries, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.
The passer-by, 66-year-old Lai Jiansheng, had been fed up with what he called Chen's "selfish activity," Xinhua said. Traffic around the Haizhu bridge in the city of Guangzhou had been backed up for five hours and police had cordoned off the area.
"I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest," Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities' attention to their appeals."

Fussin’! :)
Kinda reminds me of Lethal Weapon when Mel Gibson grabs the suicidal man and jumps off the building with him.
Jumper: “Aren’t you gonna try to grab me?” Harry: “A friend of mine was up about 20 floors with a jumper a few years ago, and the jumper grabbed him, they went off, 20 floors down, just mashed ‘em all over the pavement. Couldn’t tell which legs were with which, which arems were with which, and it was a terrible mess. I’ll tell ya I almost threw up myself. I’d just like your name and address that’s all.” Jumper: “Why?” Harry: “Well like I said, it’s such a mess down there afterwards and it makes identification impossible. Even if they find your drivers license, all that blood and everything..” Jumper: “I think...I think I’m gonna puke.” Harry: “Ah - now don’t do that son. I mean all those people down there looking up. Firechief looking up - his face (laughs).”
“relevant government authorities”... hmm... that sounds like an oxymoron to me.
I know there were probably 100,000 people on the Washington DC Beltway who would have gladly pushed the jackass who was threatening to jump off the Woodrow Wilson Bridge one day 10 years ago. The police shut down the Beltway for more than seven hours, both directions, beginning during rush hour, and the entire region, including all of DC, was frozen in gridlock. It was a freaking nightmare.
I remember that day, I was stuck past the Route 1 exit, but not QUITE on the Wilson Bridge. But far enough back NOT to see the show.
Actually, jumpers and wannabe jumpers should be sued by everyone held up in traffic that day, for theft of service by deception. ..
I was stuck in that mess for almost 10 hours trying to get home from work. That was when I came up with the ‘Pointy Stick’ law. Have the first responder to arrive poke the asshat with a ‘Pointy Stick’ until he jumps or gets off the bridge.
