EVERY visitor to Caddo Lake on the Texas-Louisiana border seems to come away with a profoundly personal impression. Anglers prize Caddo, the only naturally formed lake in Texas, for its trophy bass; canoeists rate its twisting, interlocking bayous among the most challenging to navigate.

I love Caddo Lake, we go there quite often just for boating.. you could get lost for days in it. I grew up very near Caddo when I was a kid and would spend days and days just wandering around the ‘woods’, lots of old Indian mounds that are being discovered every year.

...oh, and I forgot to mention the real fun (at least for a 13 year old) going out to Caddo with a 22 and shooting cottonmouth snakes sunning on logs.

One of the most beautiful, unusual lakes I have ever been on. I used to go on a regular basis.
Humorous anecdote..I would meet a Cajun friend of mine there. He was a little bit crazy and I was a little bit young, so we ended up on the lake, which is very difficult to navigate in the daylight, after dark. He turned on the running lights to try to guide us out. Every...and I mean EVERY snake on that snaky lake was drawn to those lights.
I felt like I was in a B-grade science fiction movie..I don't know what you call a herd of snakes..but they were really after the boat. (and trying to crawl in..shiver).
My crazy Cajun friend thought it was hilarious.
But we caught a lot of fish.

I high centered a canoe at Caddo Lake once. Darn near capsized the thing getting off the submerged stump.

on Caddo Lake near Uncertain, TexWonder where the name came from? Most agree that when the village decided it needed a post office, the application they sent to the Federal gov't included the words "uncertain" where the town's name was to be inserted. The request was approved and the village was forever named...
