Pastrana's a sad story. She was apparently very intelligent (she could speak and write in three languages) and rather charming. Her manager married her, mostly to keep control of her. She had a baby, hoping that it wouldn't look like her, but it did. The baby died within a couple of days and Pastrana died not long after. Heartbreak, they say. The manager had them both embalmed and continued to display them. Then he found another Mexican woman with the same condition and married her. He was later seen throwing money off a bridge. Sometime thereafter he was commited to a mental insitution, where he died.

The mummified bodies of Pastrana and her baby eventually found their way to Norway, where they were displayed from 1921 until the 1970s, when the Norwegian government shut down the display. The mummies were stolen, recovered, lost, refound and now are in storage at the Oslo Forensic Institute.
