After learning about the mounting nursing home bills for Millvina Dean, the last survivor of the sinking of the Titanic, the stars and director of the top-grossing film have made a "considerable donation" to her care, the U.K.'s Independent newspaper reports. Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and James Cameron have all contributed to a fund established for Dean, 98, who had bee selling her autograph to make ends meet. (Celine Dion has also been hit up, but she hasn't responded yet.) At 9 weeks, Millvina was also the youngest passenger of the Titanic. She now lives in Southampton, from where the ship set sail in 1912.

People were bashing them yesterday in the threads...it was disgusting. They are doing a good thing and people are upset...does not make sense.

Exactly what I was wondering. Why are celebrities having to pay a nursing home bill in a nation that is held up to us as the shining example of why socialized medicine is the way to go.

Whatever happened to socialized medicine? These same celebutwits will champion socialized medicine here in the US, but they are seeing first hand the the UK example. It should be their wake up call, but sadly, it will not!
