Is globalism and "free trade" what's destroying the GOP? (America-first vanity)

Posted on 05/09/2009 12:47:21 PM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

Yesterday I happened upon a post by a fellow FReeper. In retrospect, I am sorry for responding rudely to their post - and I hope they happen upon this apology.

The post was presenting their heartfelt opinion that American industry and our system itself must be allowed to come apart so that something better can replace it.

It was a Rand-ian position. The system is becoming oppressive, therefore we must weaken it.

LOL .... Down with the struggle - that's a good one. Nice side-step there.

When they remake Best Little Whorehouse In Texas you should audition for the part of the Governor!

You know very well I'm a capitalist and why shouldn't I be? It's given me a good life.

And in spite of your funny comments, Zero and his Chi-town thugs are in control ... all thanks to a few (make that a more than few) corrupt Republicans and a whole lot of greedy free traders.

And it really ticks me off to think of the mis-application of Capital Zero will do.

I’m not going to argue with you any longer if you can’t accurately represent that argument I’ve been making all along, my child.

Of course you are a capitalist . . . you're just a capitalist who quotes and agrees with Marx. Why would your credibility ever be called into question?

Just like it’s not my fault you can’t remember my argument. Like I said, the world needs idiots.

Just like it’s not my fault you can’t remember my argument.

That Ronald Reagan somehow created Bill Clinton's NAFTA agreement without anticipating that Clinton would negotiate it, secure its passage and sign it into law?

That "argument"?

You're blathering in a panic.

Hey, I'm actually sorry that I'm making fun of you for the "crickets" thing . . . I just found it humorous.

You're beginning to bore me, so those crickets in your head are about to become louder.

Is that what you were doing? I just put it down to hysteria.

What is it with you? Are you so intent on scoring imaginary internet points that you simply ignore everything (that you find inconvenient) that has been posted on this thread to this point?

I mean, seriously, there's a reason that there's a term identified as, "asked and answered."

companies “cheat” their workers by looking only at front-line labor costs, not counting the extra costs built in by offshoring /outsourcing, which are spread out throughout the product or system lifecycle, hidden under a multitude of budget items.

And the government helps them by subsidizing their distribution of their products so they still appear to be cheaper. In California, it is the taxpayers that get to pick up the tab for port improvements, road maintenance, environmental effects, etc. Heaven forbid that some of that might be relieved by one of those awful tariffs or container fees! Just hint at it and you'll be accused of being a "protectionist" or wanting to start a trade war.

Yep. Thank goodness Ronald Reagan never used tariffs or protected American industries.

Don't forget, Bush placed tariffs on steel and softwood lumber, that should make him a hero.

There is a difference between quoting and agreeing with Marx. You've avoided the question, is Obama a Marxist/socialist?

I've been warning a long time that that this policy of shipping jobs overseas would bite us in the rear.....

And how is that supposed to demean Reagan?

You RINOs just can't help yourselves.

There is a difference between quoting and agreeing with Marx.

And I wish folks like you understood it . . . Marx argued that free trade would cause the proletariat to rise up. In that sense, he's not much different from Pat Buchanan.

Again, if you weren’t suffering from ADHD, yesterday I argued at all presidents place tariffs on some products some of the time. Just another historical fact that you cannot wrap your mind around.
