I saw the movie at an advanced screening Thursday night. Kirk is a real man in this movie and kicks @$$. All the men in this movie are real men. Even Captain Robac and Kirk's father George Kirk in the opening scene on the U.S.S. Kelvin is one of the best action sequences I've seen in an opening movie, period. (not gonna spoil it but George Kirk sacrifices his life so his wife and unborn child, the future Captain Kirk, will survive) The touchy-feely, political correctness that dominated Star Trek from 1990-2007 is over. Long live TOS!

Frankly I am amazed that this franchise is still alive and breathing. The last few movies from this franchise have been boring, dull, unoriginal, mindless and stupid.

That's one of the vibes I got. Specifically, the conversation between young Kirk and Pike in the bar. Pike made a comment to the effect of you look before your leap, something that the fleet has lost these days. I think that was Abrams's way of informing everyone that Berman was a pansy and we aren't doing it that way anymore.

Abrams certainly went great lengths to capture the feel of the original TV show. I think he succeeded.
