Little Rock Police think they've solved a string of burglaries across the city. All of them, detectives say committed by the same man, who as he was arrested, tried to poke out the eyes of a police dog.
Limping his way out of the Little Rock Police Department, detectives say Russell Brewer, 39, of Greenbrier is responsible for over 40 business burglaries, including ten Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Lieutenant Terry Hastings says it ended inside Cruse Uniforms at 1201 South Barrow where he fought with officers and police canine Xanthro.
"Mr. Brewer decided he was going to try and poke the eyes of our canine dog out. The dog did not appreciate that and the dog did bite him severely," Hastings says.
Which explained the visible cuts and bandages on brewer as he was walked to a waiting squad car on his way to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Center.
Detectives say brewer hit places from a Karate gym to a medical supply store on Rodney Parham, stealing a gun.
Police say Brewer also broke into Andys Restaurant at 124 S. Barrow after the business closed. He didn't get anything at that location but when employees came to open up the store Thursday morning they'd found that, for whatever reason, he'd left behind a pair of pants in the bathroom.
"We probably don't know the amount of burglaries this individual has committed," Hastings says.
This is not the first go-round for Brewer. He was convicted in a dozen robberies in July 2008 and additional burglaries in October 2008. A judge didn't give him jail time for either convictions.
"It's very frustrating for us when we catch him and get him in the system and then he gets five years probation," Hastings says.
Police say Brewer is an example of multiple property crimes committed by just one burglar.
"We hope this time we send him to prison for a long time," Hastings says.
Police canine Xanthro received a cut below the eye in the attack and is being treated by a veterinarian.
Detectives also believe Brewer is responsible for a dozen burglaries in the Scott Hamilton and 65th Street area earlier this week.
He makes his first appearance in district court Friday morning.
Someone needs to send this to Leno

That way that burglar limped out of the hospital, that police dog must have went off on him like he was a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Man looks real banged up! Watch him sue the PD for excessive force by the dog.
Idiot Burglar: 0
Way to go Xanthro!!!!!!!
The video is hilarious. The perp looks like Wile E. Coyote after an encounter with an Acme Explosives product.
GOOD DOG! Vet is next door to my work, so im going next door after work and give an "attaboy" and dontate a "mr. arm".
I’m taking Xanthro and giving the points in any rematch.
My 83 lb.+ half Pit, half Black Lab sleeps with me at night. He just might do something like that to anybody who broke in to my house while I’m there. Of course, Mr. Beretta, who also lives here, might do something, too.
...as opposed to, say, a FELINE dog???
We're my home or business hit by this POS and I had to shoot him or worse he got away......I'd sue the POS Judge in civil court.
OK.

The dog definately won this fight! OMG that video is hilarious!
I have a female half pit bull half lab. She is a great dog!
The video of the perp going "OOOOWWWWWW" is IMHO better than the "dont taze me bro" "AAAAIIGGHHH"!
