Fawcett’s Friends Prepare To Say Goodbye

The weekend is expected to be a somber one for friends of Farrah Fawcett. Her longtime partner Ryan O’Neal told People magazine that Fawcett “stays in bed now,” and her treatment “has pretty much ended.”

According to a friend of Fawcett’s, O’Neal’s interview also is a cue that it was acceptable to begin preparing for the inevitable.

“When Ryan spoke out like that, it was like a sign that it was OK for the goodbyes to begin,” said the friend. “We’ve all wanted to remain positive for as long as possible.”

According to the friend, Fawcett isn’t totally aware of how much the public cares about her. “She knows there’s tremendous support, but really right now is about being with her family and close friends.”

The actress, 62, was diagnosed with cancer in September 2006. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, Fawcett was declared cancer-free in February 2007. However, in May 2007, she was informed that her cancer had returned.

They proably mean when she lost her hair to chemotherapy. My husband kept a lock of mine. I don’t know if he still has it tucked away - I have enough for three women now :-)

What’s even more ghoulish is that some people have gems made from from the ashes of the dearly departed and have pendants, rings, etc., made. There used to be a company that did this — “Life Gems”, I think it was. Don’t know if it’s still around.

People keep hair from their children’s first haircuts and romantic literature is filled with stories of loved ones carrying a lock of their beloved’s hair in a locket, silk purse, or somewhere else.

I read that it was ALL of it. Not just a lock.

It is sad...as Farrah will forever be “Farrah” of the poster and layered haircut. She has been thru a lot with this...cancer is horrific. I pray that she finds peace; and that the same be blessed upon her survivors.

I trully believe marriage isn’t for everyone...she and Ryan seemed to find their places in each other lives...I wish people wouldn’t begrudge anyone that...

Sorry to hear, Per, of your late father’s illness...these troubles cross all humanity. They kind of bind us all...as we know what we (our) situation was...

I heard that Ryan O’Neal kept her hair. That true? That’s pretty ghoulish.

It might have some meaning to them that you're not aware of. Regardless, it's nobody's business.

The Victorians used to actually make artwork for their parlors from hair. They would twist strands of hair and form them into flowers then glue them to velvet covered boards and frame them.

My second wife had a great ideas for a new product which would utilize the ashes of cremated people. The product would be a ‘save’ for the family of the deceased.

BTW, ‘it is a great idea in ways to “save the planet” from becoming one giant grvaeyard”, wasting precious resources to bury folks in metal and such which condemn the land for generations’ ... her words, not mine.

LOL! You know, I got a lot more sympathy from men than from women when I lost my hair. The woman at the wig store said it's because most men are going to face it on some level and most women know they never will. My own mother scoffed at me.

Well, I lost track of what thread I’m posting to and I apologize for making light on a thread that is meant to honor a woman who is loved very much and is slipping away from this life.

Prayers up for her and for peace and comfort for all who love her.

Yeah - decorating on the cheap. I don’t think I’ll be doing that any time soon.
