Nuclear Pakistan brings Taliban threat home

How horrible, fantastic it is that we should be digging trenches and trying on gas-masks here because of a quarrel in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing." - British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, 1938

What on Earth is going on over in Pakistan? And what does it have to do with life in America ...

The Munich Crisis of 1938 provides that case in point where the problems of a quarrel in a far away place can come home to every one of us. Ask any veteran of World War II if they thought they had to go and fight the legions of Hitler or Axis Japan. In near-perfect unity, they will tell you that the United States had to fight that war, and had to win.

Take it forward 20 years to 1958 in Cuba, and you will get some notion of what is happening in Pakistan right now. In pre-Castro Cuba, the guerrillas were in the hills. Suddenly they were in Havana. Just as suddenly, they were in power.

The next thing that happened was the Soviet Union sent nuclear missiles to a base in Cuba 90 miles off our shores, and we were in for a harrowing series of days, within minutes of going to nuclear war.

the so-called government in Islamabad haplessly believed Taliban insurgents could be appeased by allowing them to have an extreme "Sharia" law embraced by Muslim extremists. That is the kind of law that sanctions the flogging of young women, and the execution at will of men and women identified somehow as impure.

Of course, fanatics are not to be appeased. Castro was not liberating Cuba. He was putting it under his dictatorship and imposing a cruel Communist regime that would serve as a base for nuclear Armageddon...

No worries about the Taliban possesing nukes.

BO will simply assure them that he’s on the fast track to destroying America and Western civilization, so they needn’t bother.

I notice this is getting little attention- I think the Obama administration does not want to recognize this as a problem for the U.S. because they don’t want to do anything about it. If the Taliban takes over Pakistan (right now I see nothing to stop them from doing so) they will have nukes and they will have a base for their operations. Taliban and AQ go hand in hand though I realize all Taliban are not AQ.

I do believe this is one of those clear cut cases where we will have to fight them in the near future and if we don’t do it there, we will be attacked here- again.
